Posted : 5 Jan, 2011 09:35 AM So a comment was made in another post about the dichotomy between the views of American women calling American men jerks and foreign women thinking American men are nice guys and treat women well compared to where they live. I have traveled and lived around the world and heard this more than once. A lot of foreign women think American men are nice. Yet so often we hear women here saying all men are jerks. Anyone have an explanation for the discrepancy? Post Reply

The parameters are too general for this question. A will say a lot of foreign chicks see American guys as a green card though, so yeah to them I bet we're the greatest thing since money was invented. American women have lots more opportunity in this country. They not only see us as jerks sometimes -they see us as un-necessary. Equality dictates tho' if men can be jerks-- women can too. chevy I think the majority are nice guys. Post Reply

I think how we are perceived and the green card issue are two different topics. Regarding my original point, I've even heard it from Australian women (ie first world/ western nations) Post Reply

Posted : 5 Jan, 2011 11:01 AM Most American men ARE nice (unless they are acting like jerks) And Brandon is right I think, foreigners in general, still see (our failing country) as a utopia compared to many places around the world and that automatically makes American Men THE WAY to go~so go ahead and be flattered, it's ok. (Then stop dreaming and be realistic) Will some of you admit how wonderful it would be to be waited on hand and foot by a woman who knows nothing else? Surely the Old Testament is full from the beginning with men who thought one wife was good, more must be better. And yet, of course, that isn't God's plan. Servind and Submitting ourselves one to another is tho, and we should seek that kind of marriage...IMHO (my turn to dream...) Post Reply

I think in many countries men tend to see women as lower class and servants of men, and therefore don�t treat their women with much respect. It all comes down to a matter of perspective. I have had several non-Christian women be interested in me simply because I treat them with respect. They are willing to overlook my problems with starting relationships because they just want someone who will treat them well. Christian women, on the other hand, tend not to deal with as many jerks, so when they see me, all they see is my problems. The fact that I am a nice guy who will treat them well means nothing to them, because they see plenty of nice guys. Post Reply

And I was thinking, Do we treat foriegn women differently than American women because we see them as less strong or able to take on the man's role like many single moms here have to do? Posted : 5 Jan, 2011 11:33 AM Well I guess our perspective and things we don't think about or take for granted stand way out to other people that have a different culture and perspective. Mass media and image I think might have something to do with it. There was one exchange student we had in highschool from Germany who said before she came here she was nervous because she was thinking it would be like being with people who should be on Jerry Springer or Eminem. So I think it's a surprise and relief when they find out we're totally not like the images pumped out in mass media. Also I think people that say that tend to be more open to meeting new people and to her you're the American guy and that's good enough because it's new and cool, rather than the (australian) guy who broke her heart and that she assumes all australian guys are like. People tend to live up to whatever expectations you set for them too, so if they treat you like you're cool and interesting you feel and be more cool and interesting. But again like I said I think mass media and image of Americans that gets put out has a lot to do with it. Post Reply
