This is an idea I heard of many years ago, as something to do with your children to cultivate gratitude in their lives. But, I think it's a cool thing for adults to do to!

Here's how it works:

1. You begin 12 days before Thanksgiving (which is tonight, but it's okay if you start late!).

2. On each day of the first 11 days, you express gratitude to someone. And this can't just be your normal, mindless,"Thank you for passing the butter," but something meaningful, where you truly express how the person has touched your life and how grateful you are for his or her presence. You could write a letter to someone you haven't spoken to in years who really made a difference in your life, or drop off a small gift to someone who helped you out, or call someone who has been kind to you...

3. On day 12 (Thanksgiving -- assuming you start on time!), you write a thank you letter to God, expressing all of the things you are thankful to Him for. Then, you seal the letter, and you put it away.

4. The next year, you start all over, only on the 12th day, you both write a new letter to God and open up your old one and read it!

If anybody wants to share what specifically they do on each of the days (or even just one of the days), that would be really cool. I would love to hear about what you're grateful for and who has touched your life!

=)

What a cool idea! I sort of already do the letter to God thing by writing in my spiritual journey journal, but I don't specifically write a Thank You letter on Thanksgiving day.
