Essentially know how to be a wife/husband before you get married, would be like learning how to drive, maintain, and purchase a good car Post Reply

But it the more prepared you are the better, just keep in step with God's will (Pr 3:5,6) and you wont go wrong. Post Reply

I do think that premarital counseling is important, and should be taken seriously. However, I think that if a couple has had a good dating relationship, and has spent a lot of time as a couple with older, more spiritually mature, experienced couples, then a lot of "counseling" would already have taken place...meaning that numerous, intense, formal premarital counseling sessions might not be necessary. But each relationship is different, and the couple has to do what is best for them. Post Reply
View Profile History	premarital counseling poll Posted : 13 Sep, 2010 08:08 AM I vote 'F' - Within the Church, it should be a part of Christian education starting in the tween years and continued through any youth, college/young adults, or singles ministry regardless of age. It should be re-enforced and amplified as soon as a couple is engaged. There is a great need for post-marriage counseling, as well. In large part, the Church has abdicated the responsibility of teaching about marriage and relationships to a lost and dieing culture that takes it's morals and values from media (TV, movies, etc.), secular psychology or that which is politically correct. We need to counter popular culture with God's eternal Truth. I'm not speaking of moralistic dos and don'ts, but empowering God's people with the breathtaking beauty of God's purpose and plan for and the spiritual power of the marriage covenant. If that is imprinted on a soul, one will not quickly settle for anything less or easily cast it aside. Too often, I think, we ask for blessings when wisdom is what we really need. So, I'll vote 'F' and sit down now. :rolleyes: Post Reply
