4 Temperaments

As I have been reading the forums, we seem to have recurring questions of, "Why does she do that?" "Why did he do this?" and "Why do you...?" Sometimes it's not gender roles, but basic personality differences.

I first heard of the temperaments back when I still qualified as young and attended a seminar titled, "Why you do the things you do." If you are as interested in that statement as I was, I'd recommend the book "Spirit-Controlled Temperament" by Tim LaHaye - Yes, the same man from the Left Behind series.

Knowing about these temperaments has helped me as a friend, daughter, spouse, and mother. Each of the temperaments have strengths and weaknesses. If you're not ready to let God work at capitalizing on your strengths, and correcting your weaknesses, then don't read the book. 'Cause God will hold you accountable for what you know.

If you're ready for God to mold you into a new and improved vessel - go for it!

Rose, from what you can gather, what would be my temperament with its strengths and weaknesses? I want to know.

Sorry BG. I have a hunch, but I could be dead wrong. My guess would be that you are strong in leadership skills and getting the job done. What I see as your patience ebbs and flows - just can't get a handle on it yet. Diplomacy is not your strong point, but you have great compassion especially for the underdog. You love to have a good time, yet there is a side of you that is no nonsense. I have no knowledge of your organizational skills or any level of perfectionism.

Everyone usually have 2 prominent temperaments as primary and secondary. How about you tell me, then maybe all my pieces will click into place? I really don't go around analyzing people. It's more of an "Aw Ha, now I understand."

Does that answer your question at all?

You actually are really accurate. I love to find out about myself. And other's behavior and the 'why' they do what they do has always been my interest. I'm an auditory learner, being visual as my secondary. I'm EXTREMELY detailed and analytical. I see the small picture on up to the bigger picture. I work best in organized chaos and better alone than on a team. People ask for my advice and often automatically look to me lead when I would sometimes rather follow. Told you I was analytical! Lol.

Then, my guess would be that you are primary Melancholy and secondary Choleric. You can google the characteristics of these temperaments if you don't want to buy a book.

Love ya,

Rose

Right now the popular one is the Myers Briggs test. I always thought Jungian Archetypes were more fascinating, but that's almost entirely because of their names being more fun.

I agree that Myers Briggs is popular right now, but it is much more complicated. I think that LaHaye's is more "user-friendly." I also think that the Myers Briggs is so exacting that it doesn't leave room for the power of God to change people's natural born character. I'm definately not the same person I was at your age. Thank God!!!

You're a psych major aren't you Tulip? Maybe I should have said that psycologist use the Myer Briggs test to identify their clients natural inclinations. LaHaye's book uses the temperaments as a tool for spiritual growth.

Good call, but no I'm not a psych major. I like the subject, but I didn't want to major in it. Instead, I'm an amateur psychologist, which means I know just enough to get myself in trouble!
