probably the biggest question i've had on my mind for decades if not always is: given that supposedly you can do anything you put your mind to, what should one put their mind to and what does it mean to be all you can be? what inhibits us from this? why should we be all we can be?

Ok, I'm going to take a shot at this one. It might be far-reaching, but stay with me....haha!

Let's say God has laid it on your heart to be, oh I don't know, I'll use me, a paramedic. And let's say you keep telling Him, No! By knowing His Will and not letting Him guide you, in a way, you're sortof telling Him that He doesn't know what's best for you, or that He doesn't really have the best plan. And by that, you're saying that He's not in total control or sovereign or fit to be our God.

Like I said, it's far-reaching, but I can see it. If we KNOW God is telling us to do something, we should do it. If we don't, we're not being all we can be. And I guess I'm saying we shouldn't set our minds on anything but doing God's Will.

Cattle's right....very thought provoking...I like it!! :)

how about... "be all you can be - TODAY"?

i believe we are hindered by our lack of faith. i'm not saying that we know what we should do and do not do it, i'm saying that we don't understand. some of us figure since we cannot see our hand in front of us that the task is not worth doing. not understanding that each bit of labour lays the foundation for a better tomorrow (God willing).

of course things set backs will occur (it's called life) but all in all, i think it is a lack of faith.

...if that applies to you, then "press on toward the high calling in Christ Jesus"!

if not, there'll be other suggestions ... hopefully

Great points everybody!

Today I realized how dependant I am on other people or other things to make me happy or fullfilled. Those things aren't bad in and of themselves, but when i start depending on them instead of or more than God to make me feel, in a word, free, is when i fall and become dependant on things that are imperfect and will let me down at some point when God gets put on the back burner, and i end up chasing the wind looking for the next thing. Sometimes i need to remember to trust in God, and other times i need to remember NOT to trust in things. He is the only one that knows all that we can truly be and wants and enables us to be just that.

I'm unable to redeem myself

From all I've ever been

Unable to remember

You've forgotten all my sin

And with the precious blood of Jesus

You have washed me clean

You have made me everything

I never could have been.

Chorus to "Unable". Written by me. Copyright by Eagle Wings Music 2008

To be all that I can be is not my goal. There is nothing about me that I want to live down to. To be all that I have been made to be because I have been filled with the power that raised Jesus from the dead is what I want to be.

What should one put their mind to? Probably avoiding humanistic thinking. The Bible says we have the mind of Christ. (1st Cor 2:16) Our question should not be what would Jesus do? but rather what would Jesus be? Character is more precious than reputation. Our character is who we really are. Our reputation is what people think we are. Put your mind to being like Jesus, not just in deed but in thought.

Phi 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Not being all you can be would be settling for a life God never intended for you.

As a Christian, to be all you can be would mean to be all that God has made you to be.

We all have differenct calls and destinies. We can't be all we can be by ourself. For instance raising kids. Many Chrisitan parents tell there children they can do whatever they what want to - be whatever they want to be. I understand, this is too encourage them but for Christians this is not so.

We are to be absolutely surrendered to God. To honor God we should be all that He created us to be. It is up to us to seek Him for his plan for us.

Blessings

God has a purpose for each and every one of us....That is to be the best at, in ALL that we do (say or speak) publicly or privately... that it be in Glorifying HIM (Our GOD)!

That's easier said than done, especially for a new believer in Christ.... The funny thing I've learned and still trying to understand... and work it out, walk it out, is.... that God has His timing. No matter what we do in terms of works, has anything to do with HIS plan for us. Jesus DIED for me, and I had to learn and understand scripture enough (and still learning and understanding...) to realize being the best that I can be will never be or live up to all He was for us, for me... EVER! So, I just kinda strive to watch my actions, and when my attitude and actions get a little twisted, which, they often do, I just admit ,"Lord, I messed up, and I know my response wasn't right, help me correct it", and keep on going...

I think too, that what inhibits us is, most of us are at different places in our walk with the Lord... Some of us, still in control and haven't learned it yet, haven't experienced it first hand about the glory of God, about what it means to glorify Him, and that it's not about what we do, but what we allow Him to do in us. Ok Remp.... I'm done here, started ramblin'.... ~ GraceMae
