I see a lot of profiles that say, "No drinking", as if the Lord Jesus would be forbidden from His own gospel because He turned water into wine, commands it to be used in the Old Testament, both in worship and moderation, and His apostles have clearly said, "use a little wine for your stomachs sake and your often infirmities". This "wine is bad" is nothing more than the opinions of men being holier than God.

Yes, drunkenness is forbidden, but a man isn't justified by what he eats or drinks, but by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and He commands, not that we abstain, but that we walk in temperance, faith, and love.

Many People who drink at one point usually gets drunk.

And, that scripture is use a lot for those who want to

justify drinking. The water was not clean/clear back in Jesus days and many people drank wine then. lol

Why except a drinker if you don't want one. lol

Be Blessed......

I don't think there anything wrong in just taking alcohol.Too much of everything is a sin,and a sin indeed!I take alcohol in moderate and believe me i am still smoking in the Lord.Being a Christian doesn't mean one should go extreme when there isn't a need,it means we should be clean at heart. One can actually share the word of God with a couple of friends in a bar............pple around will look and listen to wat u ve to say coz at that point, they look at u as one young lively guy with a mouth full with amazing wonders of God. :waving:

I was asking to a pastor I know that belongs to the Assembly of God church about this and he said that it can be a stumbling block to other people, so in other words they aren't necessarily against it but rather avoid it to prevent anything bad from it.

The Bible does say "abstain from all appearance of evil." 1Thessalonians 5:22

"It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor princes strong drink." Proverbs 31:4

"Who hath woe? Who hath sorrow? Who hath contentions? Who hath babbling? Who hath wounds without cause? Who hath redness of eyes? They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his color in the cup, when it movers itself aright. At the last it bitten like a serpent, and stingers like an adder.". Proverbs 23:29-32

Wine was the fruit of he vine...there was good wine and bad wine...the fermented wine was the bad wine

There are more verses that address wine/strong drink...

Jesus turned water into wine, not fruit punch, but wine. Noah got drunk on wine, the priests used wine, and the believer is to have a little wine.

There is no excuse for drunkenness, but wine, alcohol, and the things that God has created are to be received with thanksgiving, because the wine or the herb, when legal, are not the problem; it is the sinful heart of unthankfulness and excess.

Grace shouldn't make us deny others their freedoms in Christ, nor should it make us feel superior because we don't do something that the bible doesn't even forbid.

If someone decides you must be a certain age to contact them, would you argue that it's against scripture because scripture sets no age limit for spouses? Of course not. It's just their personal preference.

If someone decides you must not drink (to contact them), it may not be based on scripture, nor a holier than God attitude. It could just be something they have decided on for any number of reasons... Bad experiences with alcohol, family issues circling around alcohol, etc...

While all things may be legal (in man's eyes), all things are not expedient (good). There are enough verses in the Bible that say No, there are no commandments to drink it. I prefer to err on the side of not taking the chance on crossing the line...

No one became a drunkard while abstaining from drinking alcohol. For me to be 'equally yoked' that individual will have the same view. I'm not telling you to live up to the same standards I hold for myself, I just limit those I choose to directly communicate with to those that would be a potential mate. Using the chat forums allows dialog with others.

Why are you offended by those of us that are up front about our expectations?

I agree with you teach_ib, there is no justification in the bible that says you must not drink, it's the expressiveness that lowers your inhibitions and sin can creep in.

I choose not to drink mainly because I just don't like the way it tastes, plus I have seen alcoholism in my family and how it can destroy lives, I just want a spouse who doesn't drink. It doesn't make me better than anyone there are those that can drink moderately and that's fine for them but I prefer to abstain altogether.

"FREE,thats what the LORD called Us to be... "

Free is not a license to sin...Would you also not care about the sin of homosexuality, murder, or rape?
