Can Family Habits Be Broken

CDFF Family,

I was listening to the radio this afternoon and they had the following question for the discussion topic: are you bound to repeat things that happened in your family or can old cycles be broken? For example you were raised with an abusive parent and you either become an abuser or marry someone who abuses you. What say you on this issue?

My best answer would be......bound - no, predisposed - yes. We are allowed to make choices. We just have to make the most of the choices we are given...and that is very difficult sometimes. Also, our current behavior is shaped by our past and genetics. That can be a tough combination to break. But tough does not mean impossible.

Blessings,

Elisa

Chosen,

I say that our God can set us free from the past, I know this because He has set me free from some very serious baggage. He is our only hope to truly walk in freedom.

God bless, Lydia

Thanks Elisa and Lydia for your responses. I agree that one is more likey to fall into those habits but believe God can definitely give us liberty.

God Bless

I believe that the only way to overcome that type of thing is through a deep spiritual experience. Anyone can be strong for a season, but all it takes is one weak moment to fall right back into what is familiar, no matter how terrible it may be.

But if we have renewed our minds by the washing of the water of the word, we no longer accept those things, no matter what happens. I was addicted to meth, but God took that from me. There is no desire there any more. I have even witnessed to old friends still doing it, and all I felt was sympathy for them, because they don't know what they are missing.

Many blessings,

Leon
