Posted : 5 Jan, 2011 09:35 AM So a comment was made in another post about the dichotomy between the views of American women calling American men jerks and foreign women thinking American men are nice guys and treat women well compared to where they live. I have traveled and lived around the world and heard this more than once. A lot of foreign women think American men are nice. Yet so often we hear women here saying all men are jerks. Anyone have an explanation for the discrepancy? Post Reply

Posted : 5 Jan, 2011 07:26 PM Well...in a lot of ancient cultures, women were pretty well regulated/degraded into sex slaves and baby-bearers. America is free for everyone, women included, and American men are far less governed by culture, so maybe that has something to do with it. Freedom is always attractive, eh? :peace::peace: Post Reply

I mean you cannot fully appreciate being happy when you have not experienced being sad. So are women. I believe American women are well protected by your laws that your men treat them well accordingly. I think it become automatic you need to be nice or else�Here where I am, Filipinas are not that protected that abuse is common the abuser is even well protected by our laws. Domestic violence is common, children growing without support from fathers is common, it is common for husbands to rely on the wives to work and support them and their errant ways. I still believe most American men would rather have a wife at home than in the workplace. Filipinas I think would rather make a home than be in a work place. Except for isolated stories of green card thing, I still believe statistics is higher on happier successful marriage. By the way, their children are now our movie stars. So don�t blame the new generation Filipinas if they also want their own movie stars. Post Reply

Posted : 6 Jan, 2011 07:51 AM @chevy I have talked to some American men who wish for Filipina wives and they all prefer the wife to stay at home if it is possible. My experience and what I observed here is that, husbands are not ashamed wives are supporting them. Except for the few middle class & upper class where husbands are vigorous in striving to provide for the family and they are just a few in our statics. Men do earn more than women right? In cases where the wife earn more, the husband tend to be dependent. So a large number of Filipinas in the low income bracket would wish for a foreign husband where chances is great they will be treated well because he is trained by his laws maybe to treat her well. He is concerned with how many children he could afford to provide unlike here where she will be like breeding pig to have children one after another no big deal he could still drink morning till night anyway and he will not worry with child support either. She could be beaten black and blue and the government (Catholic church influenced) will advice her to reconcile again and again until she is killed. There are laws with many holes for the grease money to make it roll in that favor. Do the poor woman have a chance? I had a foreign supervisor before who told me about what he observed passing this street in Makati in the morning going to office and going back to where his family was staying. He was wondering why everyday he see the same scene of busy women doing the laundry, fetching water while carrying a child, doing this and that and the men are drinking. He said if he could have his way, he wanted all women in his construction team no men. Therefore, American/foreign men make better husbands. It is not the green card but how he is perceived to treat his wife. Post Reply

I got tired of being alone so I took a chance and married a lady from the Ukraine. many men in Eastern Europe are drunks and wife beaters.The police never do any thing if a man beats his wife. My X wife's father was a police officer.The police do take bribes too. America in most cases means a better life for them.American men in general do treat women better.Ladies your overseas counterparts do get hit by their husbands a lot.It just happens. Not all men are like that, but it happens more often. Post Reply
