I AGREE WITH YOU OLE CATTLE and Walter.Rules are here to help guide us to keep our salvation and is not an excuse to sin. if someone says gods rules are null and void I do mark that person as an unbeliever and treat them that way.Believers do not accuse the brethern of being legalistic.Faith will show the works of xchrist love by obeying Jesus.Dennis

Hi Vicki,

You said a wise teacher once told you: "God does not want your obedience." "

WALTER: I have to disagree with that statement as your teacher was not very wise. God most certainly wants and expects our obedience.

John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments.

John 14:23 Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.

24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's who sent Me.

John 15:9 "As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.

10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.

If we truly love Jesus then we will be obedient to HIS commandments. This is talking about the Mosaic Law, but rather the commandments of Jesus laid out in the New Testament starting in Matthew 5,6 & 7 and onward.

1John 2:3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.

4 He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. NKJV

As I ponder this passage, I clearly see that my obedience in keeping Christ's commandments are in direct proportion to whether I truly love Him or not. Perhaps it may be more of the degree in which I love Him . When I commit a sin I am being disobedient, plain and simple. No justification for it. That demonstrates that my love for Him is not what it should be at all. (4 He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him)

Isa 29:13 Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

Are we "lip service" Christians? God recognized Israel for giving Him lip service but yet their hearts are far from God. Are we not in the same situation when we disobey Christ?

Mat 24:12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love [agape] of [THE] many will grow cold.

13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. NKJV

Obedience to God/Christ is proof of our love for Him. It is the fruit of our conversion whereby we know we are in Christ and He is in us.

Blessings!

CORRECTION: I said "This is talking about the Mosaic Law," That is not correct. I meant to say

This is NOT talking about the Mosaic Law.

I wish we could edit our posts when we catch our errors like this. If I ever do develop a web site it will have many editing features and ability to change fonts, etc.

Blessings!

But Walter, if you take Val's quote in context, she says basically the same as you....one must surrender their heart to God.

And as Leon, and I believe Mark, is saying, once you surrender your heart to God, your actions (fruit) will become more in line with His will for all of us, which is to love one another.

Please forgive the paraphrasing.

With love,

T

Hey T,

Good to see you back.

I wasn't disagreeing with Val, whoops I called her Vicki, sorry about that Val!!! I was disagreeing with that "teacher" she quoted. ;-)

I understand what that teacher was saying, but I don't think his/her analogy should say that God does not want our obedience. I agree that if we give Him our heart it would tend to lead to our obedience and it should, but there are those who do not see it quite that way. There are those who abuse their liberty in Christ and are disobedient and rebellious to the commandments and moral Principles of God and it is those people who would call the rest of us "legalists". Let us not forget the main focus of this thread.

Abundant Blessings!

Walter

Just one question, how do you abuse grace? and legal license to sin is not a good answer since we need no license being in this flesh living in this wretched world,we are corralled into it(His words not mine). Were those sins not taken to the cross also? The struggle over sin is done my brother,"IT IS FINISHED".The Word becomes legalism when we impose what God has shown us on another individual. There were not 12 Peters!.It is the Holy Spirit within us that reveals Truth as Commanded by God.Please do not play God and instruct people to keep lists against any other because the One True God in The Holy Bible instructs us not to.Don't overlook the fact that Christ went mainly to the Pharisees and Sadducee (church leaders) and used His harshest language when addressing them because even as astute they were in the law, they lacked Grace!Their hatred toward Him was due to His exposure of their fallen nature.I've said enough and I don't meen to beat you up with this.Suggested reading might be Growing in Grace and Classic Christianity by Bob George and/or Chuck Swindall's The Grace awakening. But being that these are only men I also suggest prayer for Wisdom from the only One who imparts it.

Be Kind,Be Love my brother.

Mike
