For some things there are no words. As a woman who loves words, this is tragic at first thought. Surely, I must be able to pick up the phone and explain to someone exactly how I feel; surely, the recipient of my words must have the perfect words to speak back to me. Surely, there must be words that can set my world back in order again and my heart into rhythm again.

At second thought, I let some wisdom penetrate. If words were adequate for all things, Christ would not have died; He would not have spent hours on the cross bleeding out His very life for us. If words were adequate, true repentance would be unnecessary; we could simply scrawl words of apology on a Hallmark card and call it a day. If words were adequate, we wouldnt need two hands. We wouldnt have feet. God wouldnt have given us the gift of sex.

Often, we make words into things they are not.

What would a day without words look like for you? How would you communicate without words? How would you show Christs love without words? Turn off your phone. Send no emails. Dont spend the hour gabbing over coffee with your friend...

How would you spend a wordless day?

That's a real shocker. I feel like you just stole my breath away. Uhm. I would probably smile a lot more, and communicate through action. I would have to do more things instead of just writing about doing things. I would listen a lot more. I would also feel like my hands were cut off because no matter how horrible or great I felt, I could not write it down and of course 100 great ideas would come into my head just because I couldn't write them down!

"I feel like you just stole my breath away." There is so much I could say in response to that!

Yes, like a fast =)

A fast from the overuse and abuse of language and an embracing of the MANY other ways that we can serve, worship, and love!

I know, totally different thing, the thought just crossed my mind.

Pixy's back! Yay!

That's an interesting idea...a day without words. I think I would express my feelings through non-vocal music. The choice of melody, chords, rhythms, etc., would show my emotions. Other than that, I think I'd have to DO more. My actions would become infinitely more important because I couldn't rely on my words to reinforce them.

Interesting and thought provoking. I have spent whole days alone since my oldest son moved out and it was very lonely but more intimate with the Lord if I sought Him~~ Internet can interfere with that, too.

Music was and is my passion, which sustains me a lot. I would play my guitar and dance to worship the King~alone. I've done it and the secret place with Him comes easily then.

Yikes! As someone who tends to write out the things I think and feel, it would be a real change! Not a bad thing, just way out of the ordinary.

A few things that come to mind for me might be to make arrangements ahead of the day to visit several elderly folks at my church and do chores for them, smiling often and providing hugs as needed. Or (again, having prepared in advance) provide assistance at our church preschool. I've found that children really enjoy watching me draw simple pictures that they can try to copy. Help someone who needs a bit of work in their yard possibly. Pick up groceries or run errands for someone who doesn't drive might be a possibility. One thing I just thought of is to go to my music leaders office and put up music for her. She gets so behind in doing it only working at church part time and having a fulltime job outside of church.

I'd probably have to cover my mouth with duct tape in order to keep from talking, but with God's help I could manage.

Good food for thought. Thanks!
