I like your looks, so I want to convert you... ?
Posted : 12 Oct, 2010 08:56 AM

In the last week I've been messaged by three different men with three vastly different, very strict religious backgrounds. Each asked what I believed and then got upset when I told them. One equated what I told him with something else he believed would send a person to hell. Two offered to "answer any questions" I might have. Two insinuated that I was lost. One was respectful.

Oddly enough, I am familiar with one of the churches. He'd be considered "backslid" just for being on a site like this. One of the men is part of a faith that has their own ways of networking and even their own private online dating forum, too.

Is there a proper way to handle these people? No, thanks, didn't work on two of them.

I either ignore them, or send the standard "I don't think we would make a good match" reply that this site so kindly provides for situations like this. If the person doesn't want to take "No, thanks" for answer, I ignore all other attempts to contact me.

If they get really persistent, block them.

I agree, if no thanks doesn't work, then either ignore them or block them.

I don't think you would want to convert, so there is nothing more to say but no thanks.

Oh my! By all means DO NOT ignore them!

You have been called to seek His Kingdom FIRST then you can after seek a date. Share the truth of the Gospel and the reality of Jesus in your heart until you drive them away or they come to know the real Truth and the real Jesus. And by all means be praying for their salvation. How do you know these are not divine appointments set up by God to plant, water or harvest!!!

@twosparrows. Wow, I would not have even considered that! You are definitely right. Thank you for the reminder to look at things that way.

As long as you are not being attacked, I agree with 2Sparrows.

Ask for help if you need it, or prayer. But this may be a God-appointment being presented to you.

Like GodsLamb said, if you aren't being attacked, go for it. In my experience, they do NOT want to listen. All they want to do is argue with me, and my attempts to explain my beliefs are completely ignored.

LOL I never considered turning it around and trying to convert THEM. :applause:

I love a good doctrinal discussion. Two Christians should be able to discuss Bible and agree to disagree-especially regarding non-essential points. I can understand not wanting to marry or even continue a long discussion with someone who doesn't agree on some point a person feels strongly about. I also know that some people feel that many more points are "heaven or hell" than they are for me. I just seriously can't see Peter giving me a pop quiz at the pearly gates and asking for my exact opinion on the temperature or location of hell or when I think the rapture will take place. So to me those types of things may make interesting discussions, but they aren't things I have to agree with someone on to talk to them. It's hard for me to end something by ignoring or blocking the person. But there are times it might be necessary. Most of the time I just enjoy the good discussions, and learn a lot even if I still don't agree. :waving:

It's just the few that get on my nerves. I'll warn those that I don't appreciate their angle. And then I'll try one of your tips!

Thanks, all.

I agree and thank you for this challenge....

I have had deep discussions on doctrinal differences with gentlemen as well and Ive found myself getting out my Bible and commentary and looking things up...all in all it has sharpened my Faith...as Christ says that we should be always ready with an answer of the Faith that lies within us.......good luck
