This is really just a primer for another topic I wish to post in the future ; "The Genesis Curse". I was asked about it by 'Saved' on 'Victory's' topic post and explained it very poorly. In reading other posts and looking for the proper words for a good and accurate explanation, the word 'independent' surfaced repeatedly. This "proud independent woman" is a result of the Genesis curse. The Woman who declares her independence is deluded. So is the man, however you don't hear Men proudly declaring their independence much. In fact the saying goes for Men is : "No Man is a island"

However in the last days what is evil will be called "good", this is just the case in our modern society where independence is thought of as a good thing, independent from one another, independent from God, Women being independent from Men. Even now it is growing popular for Women to retain their own name when married, ie : independence. What is next? Perhaps coming up with a new gender name that doesn't have 'male' or 'man' in it as does 'female' and 'woman'

We are to be inter-dependent, which requires submission. Submission, yet another word villainized by the modern independent woman. In the last days what is good will be called 'evil'

Two, usually that is something worldly woman say, I do not think a truly christian woman would wish to be independent of her husband, her family, and her children... and especially not the Lord.

If anything because of the softness and vulnerability that women have as opposed to men, we are supposed to be even more dependent, more submissive, more kind and caring and gentle than even christian men.

This is my view on things, perhaps you are just coming across the wrong type of women. I don't see the word 'independent' anywhere in the bible.

Rachel

PS: I've seen women like this...but..I read King James, and I don't think this was a curse God gave to Eve in Genesis, but you read from the New Living, I think.

Mine reads

"Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire [shall be] to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee."

It's important to note, most worldly women feel they don't need a husband, don't need anyone to take care of them because they're just fine on their own. This is because of pride. Why not just admit you need people in your life, you need God?

What are all your thoughts on this Two?

In looking at that scripture Genesis 3:16- this site http://bible.cc/genesis/3-16.htm gives 15 translations of the verse.

"Your desire will be for your husband", "Yet, you will long for your husband", "and thou shalt be under thy husband's power" ...

14 translations including the KJV give various wordings of "thy desire shall be to thy husband."

It is only the NLT that translates it to "you will desire to control your husband." I don't think you can take 1 translation (which is interpreting this verse in a completely different way) and designate that translation as it's biblical meaning.

So, I am in agreement with the King James Version as well as the other 14 translations of the verse.

My desire shall be to my husband [oh boy will it ever :hearts:] ...

and he will rule over me.

... paraphrase mine.

Have you ever heard the song 'Tough' (or 'I thought I was tough') by Craig Morgan? That's what I consider to be a strong woman. As opposed to the independant woman that says, "I don't NEED no man to take care of me!"

I'll be right back..I'm going to go find the words of the song.

Tough

Monty Criswell/Joe Leathers

Shes in the kitchen at the crack of dawn

Bacons on, coffees strong

Kids running wild, taking off their clothes

If shes a nervous wreck, well it never shows

Takes one to football and one to dance

Hits the Y for aerobics class

Drops by the bank, stops at the store

Has on a smile when I walk through the door

The last to go to bed, shell be the first one up

And I thought I was tough

Chorus

Shes strong, pushes on, cant slow her down

She can take anything life dishes out

There was a time

Back before she was mine

When I thought I was tough

We sat there five years ago

The doctors let us know, the test showed

Shed have to fight to live, I broke down and cried

She held me and said its gonna be alright

She wore that wig to church

Pink ribbon pinned there on her shirt

No room for fear, full of faith

Hands held high singing Amazing Grace

Never once complained, refusing to give up

And I thought I was tough

Chorus

Shes strong, pushes on, cant slow her down

She can take anything life dishes out

There was a time

Back before she was mine

When I thought I was tough

Shes a gentle word, the sweetest kiss

A velvet touch against my skin

Ive seen her cry, Ive seen her break

But in my eyes, shell always be strong

There was a time

Back before she was mine

When I thought I was tough

MsMarvel, you are correct in that my post is Not about the Christian Woman, rather about the celebrated modern woman, some of which has creeped in to Christianity.

As for you personally, you have a sweet spot in my heart, not because of your age or incredibly good looks, but because through reading your posts I have seen a glimpse of your heart.

MsMarvel and Lynn,

You are trying to get me to give up my research before it is ready...Lol!

Okay, time to clear up some assumptions:

First about me: The NLT is Not my primary Bible version. I have 12 versions I read (NASB, NIV, ESV, KJV, NKJV, NRSV, NLT, Amplified, Complete Jewish Bible and a Word for Word in the Original Hebrew and Greek) I primarily read only three, but use all 12 for study.

I don't want to give away my next post, however I will give you a hint. The hebrew word for desire is rarely used in the Bible, it appears in the next chapter, 4:7 and in the same way, even the sentence structure is almost identical.

Opps, I miscounted and forgot one, HCSB, so only 11 versions, I am not counting my New World translation, I only use it for Jehovah Witnesses, except sadly, they don't come to my house any more ;-( ...lol
