Where Have Your Tongues Been?

I think it's sad that some churches don't believe in, and/or don't teach the baptism of the Holy Spirit. I went around for awhile, knowing nothing about it. I'm so happy that I am filled with the Spirit now. Thank you Lord!

So anyway, do you speak in tongues? If you do, what has been the greatest benefit of this gift in your life?

If you don't, would you like to, or no?

(Being just a little nosey tonight )

Absolutly!!! I usually pray in the spirit at least once a day, especially the days that I neglect to put reading my Bible first, not that I do it out of guilt either, but because I like to do it. One thing that I really love to do is blast praise and worship music and just walk around the house and pray. Often times when I do that someone will come to mind for me to pray for and I don't think it would happen if I didn't do that. I also find myself praying at random times in the day. I am really big on GOOD praise and worship music and I have not found some thing better to have God's presence fill the room. This is actually something I would love to do with my future mate. Just for us to both have praise worship music blasting and us pray for our neighbor hood and those around us. Actually, I have just recently taken a greater interest in music ministry. I have no clue where is will go, but I know God's hand is on me in that area and for some reason I am holding back tears of joy as I typed this sentence.

Not too long ago too God put it on my heart to pray for Rachel, aka "MsMarvel", and some reason I felt I needed to pray for peace. What I had found out a few days later with the couple of days that I was praying for her was that something happened in her family and it was something that anyone could use a little peace over. So, I think it is extremely important to pray often in the spirit and in understanding. You never know who you may be praying for or who God will want you to pray for at times.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NKJV)

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Nope, never spoke in tongues. It's never really seemed necessary for a close relationship with Christ

I've never spoken in tongues, and like Tulip said, I never found tongues to be necessary in order to have a close walk with God.

ND, that was awesome. I agree with everything you said.

I'm supposed to be in the music ministry, as well. Like you said, I don't know how and to what compacity, but hey, I'm excited. And I'm very excited for you!

I agree with you when you said....

"So, I think it is extremely important to pray often in the spirit and in understanding. You never know who you may be praying for or who God will want you to pray for at times."

I don't usually play Worship music in the house. I tend to play it in the car. What I do like to do is praise and worship Him myself, and boy oh boy, His presence is so strong when I do. If I'm not careful, it could become an addiction. I have to remember to keep reading the Bible, and studying, and praying, and fasting, etc.

ND, thanks forthat warm response!

Only once I have I genuinely spoke in tongues - I'm not even sure it could be called tongues because it was almost inaudible and I had no idea what I was saying, just the overwhelming feeling that I was laid bare before God and He understood. At that time I was on my knees weeping behind a row of chairs (it was a public prayer-meeting at an event, but God had told me not to stay with the others and instead to go around the side where I would be out of sight). That was a powerful experience I'm not sure I fully understand even now.

I don't speak in tongues, but I have heard several people speak in tongues at my church. I don't really want to speak in tongues. God has gifted me in other areas and I will just stick with that.

dkj, that sounds like a beautiful experience. Wow!

I believe there are tongues, which any believer can have, as long as they're baptized in the Holy Spirit. That's your secret prayer language to God. That's the one that may actually sound more like "gibberish" than an actual language. But oh boy, is it powerful. It's often referred to as a "heavenly language" because only the Lord understands what you're saying, not others.) In other words, it's not for another human being to interpret.

The Gift of Tongues is a separate thing. Those are actual languages that people speak supernaturally. Every believer does NOT have this gift. For example, I never studied Chinese, but as the Holy Spirit works through me, I'm able to speak it fluently. Someone with the Gift of Interpretation, which could also be the person who has the Gift of Tongues, would be able to interpret/translate what I just said because it's an actual language.

tongues= "heavenly langauge" "gibberish-sounding" Any believer can have it

Gift of tongues= actual language (Aramaic, Hebrew, Swahili, etc.) Not every believer has it

You may already know all of this, but I just figured I'd share. Hope I explained it well enough.:glow:

Have a nice day!

KatieKatie21, I respect your decision. My mother chooses to decline tongues, as well....for now:winksmile:

It is my belief that every believer can speak in tongues if they are baptized in the Holy Spirit, and choose to accept it. It's a special present from the Lord, and it's free, like salvation!

All I can say is ...

there are many benefits to speaking in tongues, and I would urge every Christian to do so. I used to be reluctant and rather "scared" to speak in tongues. I mean, it was an unknown language afterall. But I've later found out that it's a powerful privilege.

With that said, I still respect your decision!

PS--I like your screen name. It's sounds so ...so...friendly...lol...Hope you have a great day!

I believe in the Holy Spirit but not just babbling in some unknown tongue that no one understands. The apostle Paul said that if you speak in some uknown tongue you are to have an interpreter so all can be edified. If you study the word tongue in the greek it means lanquages! Paul wasnt talking about just babbling like i have seen in many of the churches today. the confusing babbling you see today was actually started by a woman who claimed she was given a special gift by the Holy Spirit. She stepped out of her authority and role in the church. I believe that the day of pentecost was a miracle by God so all could hear the message of salvation! In our day it could be like if i was a missionary and talking with someone who spoke a different lanquage and the Holy Spirit helped me tell him the Gospel so he could understand! One needs to be carefull because Satan has a counterfeit for everything and can lead many people astray!
