The tradition of hiding Easter Eggs and giving candy on Easter morning has been around for centuries... the Germans brought it to America in the 1700s.

So, what is your favorite Easter tradition? And what is your favorite Easter candy?

I don't really have a favorite tradition these days...used to it would have been dyeing and hunting Easter Eggs. My family has also had a sort of "tradition" (though we never really held to it for more than a few years) of watching "Ben-Hur" around Easter.

My favorite Easter candy is easy: Cadbury caramel eggs! My next favorites would be Robin's Eggs and jelly beans (preferably Jolly Rancher or Starburst varieties).

At work we tried a co-workers annual family Easter tradition: a PEEP-OFF!! How many marshmallow peeps can you fit into your mouth? Sounds gross, I know- but it was tons o' fun!! I'm proud to say that I came in 2nd place with 7. The winner did 11.

My favorite Easter candy is Hershey candy coated eggs. Yum! I stock up on bags of 'em to last as long as possible.

As my grandmother was nearing the end of her life in the hospital (terminal cancer) my family and I became a lot closer. :) She would've loved it! :) One of the 'little things' we bonded over was Starburst Jellybeans! Haha! I don't even remember who started it, but someone brought a bag with them to the hospital, and we made sure a bag was there the whole time. Haha! I remember my aunt always wanted the orange ones. :) Granny and I liked the red ones. When I see them on the shelf at the store, I always smile ........ and buy a bag! Haha!

Happy Easter everyone!

Our tradition growing up was to hide the eggs (we found almost all of them each year) and Easter baskets filled with candy. Since I've been an adult, I don't really have any traditions. When there are kids around, we dye eggs and hide them. For candy? Gotta be the malted milk eggs. And cadbury carmel eggs, of course.

Every Easter, my family has a big get together at our house that the whole church is invited to (and invited to bring friends to). Since that's how I grew up, I feel like Easter is supposed to be a big occasion with lots of friends and huge amounts of food. Last year I stayed in Atlanta and ate at a friend's house, but it just didn't seem quite right. I don't think there were enough little kids there...

My favorite Easter candy and family tradition is to make (and eat) Easter Story Cookies!

The recipe explains it all as follows:

You need:

1 cup whole pecans

1 teaspoon vinegar

3 egg whites

Pinch of salt

1 cup sugar

Zipper baggie

Wooden spoon

Tape

Bible

Preheat oven to 300 F. Place pecans in zipper baggie and let children beat them with the wooden spoon to break into small pieces. Explain that after Jesus was arrested he was beaten by the Roman soldiers. Read John 19:1-3.

Let each child smell the vinegar. Put 1 teaspoon vinegar into mixing bowl. Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross he was given vinegar to drink. Read John 19:28-30.

Add egg whites to vinegar. Eggs represent life. Explain that Jesus gave His life to give us life. Read John 10:10-11.

Sprinkle a little salt into each child's hand. Let them taste it and brush the rest into the bowl. Explain that this represents the salty tears shed by Jesus' followers, and the bitterness of our own sin. Read Luke 23:27.

So far the ingredients are not very appetizing. Add 1 cup sugar. Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died because He loves us. He wants us to know and belong to Him. Read Ps. 34:8 and John 3:16.

Beat with a mixer on high speed for 12 to 15 minutes until stiff peaks are formed. Explain that the color white represents the purity in God's eyes of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus. Read Isa.1:18 and John 3:1-3.

Fold in broken nuts. Drop by teaspoons onto wax paper covered cookie sheet. Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus' body was laid. Read Matt. 27:57-60.

Put the cookie sheet in the oven, close the door and turn the oven OFF. Give each child a piece of tape and seal the oven door. Explain that Jesus' tomb was sealed. Read Matt. 27:65-66.

GO TO BED! Explain that they may feel sad to leave the cookies in the oven overnight. Jesus' followers were in despair when the tomb was sealed. Read John 16:20 and 22.

On Easter morning, open the oven and give everyone a cookie. Notice the cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies are hollow! On the first Easter Jesus' followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty. Read Matt. 28:1-9.

HE HAS RISEN!

After Easter I still make my rounds to WM, Fred's, and the Dollar Store and stock up on Peeps. They last forever!
