Approaching someone at church?

Posted : 17 Oct, 2007 12:48 AM

Hey, I work night shift and take night classes that take up much of my time to see friends and meet new people. At church is the only place I meet christian girls/women right now in my week. But that is not the reason I go to Church but they are there.

Well onto my question/questions, Is the first time I meet someone to soon to ask out, knowing I might see them next week or not? Also is asking a girl out at Church seem a bit wrong if thats the only place I get the chance to see them?

Thanks

I know how it is to want to have more friends in your life. I'm older, and most women my age are married and live a lifestyle that doesn't make room for female friends.

I think that the first initial meeting might be a bit too soon- depending on how much of a conversation you've established with that person up to that point. After a 5 or 10 minute conversation, to suggest meeting up together might seem a bit soon. But, if you've sat down and had a lengthier 30 minute or more talk then suggesting meeting up transitions better 'cuz you're looking to talk further about something.

I just love these "Blast from the past" topics!

Yes, I think that the first time a guy meets a girl is too soon to ask her out. It would be best to get to know her a little bit within a group setting first, if at all possible. That would keep the pressure low until they know each other better. If getting to know her that way is not an option, he could probably ask her for her phone number, or ask her to to friend him on Facebook, or exchange email addresses or IM names. That would be appropriate as an alternate "first step". After he's gotten to know her a little bit better, he can officially ask her out on a date.

As for asking a girl out at church...if someone asked me out at church, I sure wouldn't mind!!! (Of course, in my Bible Study class, the girls outnumber the guys 3 to1, so I don't think I have to worry about that...there's not much chance I'll snag a date. ) Remember how "courting" used to start? The guy would ask a girl if he could walk her home from church! (OK, so at least that's how it was done in books and movies...I assume it probably happened some in "real life" too!)

I copied this thread from 2007, I think? But I didn't copy the original poster's name! I promise, it was a man!

Oooooooooops!

You have shown your grace, Lynne. :)

My apologies for any confusion. :)

I REALLY wish this forum had a "delete this post" button, so I could delete what I wrote!!! But then again, as far as advice for meeting new friends ... I still think I like what I said.
