Who is your favorite woman in the bible, and why?

I think my answer would be Ruth.

She was so loyal. She was special. I don't know, I just like her relationship with Naomi and Boaz.

I probably should of said Mary, Jesus' mother, the obvious. I just wanted to "think outside of the box." I liked Elizabeth and Hannah, too. Martha's sister Mary seemed really awesome. And that lady who stayed in the temple and praised God for the latter half of her life. Can't think of her name right now, but wow! She was so ...wow! But okay, okay, I'm still pickin' Ruth.

It's funny though, because as soon as I hit SUBMIT, I'll probably think of another great woman who's my favorite.

Since two of the more common women have been listed I would like to point out two of my favorites: Deborah and Jael.

Apart from Deborah, the Judges were hardly role models for the Israelites. Jephthah sacrificed his daughter, Samson murdered his first wife, Gideon promoted the worship of fertility gods, etc. Deborah stands out from them for her wisdom, courage and faith in God. She had authority rather than power, and people respected her for the qualities she had, rather than for her military might or physical strength.

And in some ways Jael is like the female David, both were physically weak and smaller than their opponent, employed unusual weapons, and used their wits rather than orthodox military methods-- David hacking off the head of Goliath and Jael piercing Sisera's skull.

Pretty beastly if you ask me :)

MrWiseGuy, did you know the Proverbs 31 woman is said to be Solomon's mother, Bathsheeba? I'm sure you knew that :glow:

See, that's why I love the Lord. He'll exchange our beauty for ashes. He loves us. He took an adulterer and molded her into the ideal woman that surpasses them all! Whew!!!!

I'm excited about what He's going to do in my life, and so many other great women and men!

IaoKim, I like those choices. I was going to say Deborah, but I wanted to "re-study" her story. I forgot all about Jael. But boy do I love her name lol....:glow:
