Do ladies expect the guy to bring you something like flowers when you meet for the first date?

No, I don't. Unless it had been a long-distance relationship that had been going on for months and it was the first time we met. That is a circumstance when it would not seem weird or over the top.

Expect? No. But it would be a wonderful treat. A little something that makes her feel very special.

Ok, so far it's a 50/50 chance of getting it wrong.

Why does dating have to be so hard.

I'm with MountainLass...not expected, but they are something I always enjoy and appreciate. LOL, unless they're the ones I'm allergic to.

Sorry, Cobbler, that made it even harder, didn't it?

I've learned enough to know that there is no such thing as the "right thing to do" on a date. It's just a matter of luck.

Well now, every first date I have been on, nary a single gentleman brought flowers.

Then, one gentleman brought a lovely little bouquet. It wasn't so large or expensive that it creeped me out. However, the thought was so sweet. And to add to the wow factor, since we were meeting at a restaurant, he brought the flowers in a glass vase.

It's not at all expected, but I would be touched (and totally blown-away surprised) if he did bring flowers. I've never ever had a guy give me flowers. But there are things other than flowers that would be nice, if he wanted to bring something, but was worried about my allergies. I like koalas. He could bring me a koala.

Depends - are you picking me up at my house? Then flowers would be good, as I can put them in a vase on my table before we leave. Are we meeting somewhere other than my house where it would be inconvenient to carry around flowers, or if I leave them in my car they would probably wilt and die before I got back in the car? probably not such a good idea.

The last guy I dated was helping me with a project, and brought me a new bottle of wood glue (because I kept trying to use elmers school glue). That was very thoughtful - and won't wilt in my purse.

What I read here, Cobbler, is that flowers are generally not expected by women - but they're not a bad idea!

It isn't the flowers per se. It's the thought behind a gift that counts. I've had guys buy me flowers and shove them at me. It was obvious they'd put no thought into their gift, and so the gift didn't mean much. But a man who puts thought into anything he does or gives--not only thought of what he'd like to do, but what I would enjoy--has my full attention. If he is as thoughtful to others as he is to me, he's got an A+.
