As both a Christian and a gentleman, a wedding ring means something to me. So my question to you ladies is this: Should I ever believe a woman who says she's not married but wears a ring? Should I just assume she's trouble if she's the one with the ring and putting the moves on me? Or do you think that it could be a case where hubby died? Or maybe she's trying to keep everyone distant from herself? Need some feminine input here....

Is she wearing a wedding ring or a promise or purity ring?

There any number of reasons why a girl would be wearing a ring on that finger. It depends on the kind of ring it is like Cobbler said. If in doubt, ask her why she wears it. Don't make it sound like you don't believe her though. Pay attention to both what she says and how she says it. You might be able to get a read on whether she's shady or has a legit reason to where it, whatever that reason may be.

If she has a ring on the traditional ring finger that is obviously a wedding ring..... and you ask her and she admits it is a wedding ring and yet tells you she is not married...... I would not trust that. If you are looking for a husband, or making yourself available -- then the ring(s) would go off. I would think she's lying.

If your spouse dies, you're supposed to move the ring over to the ring finger on your right hand.

I'd ask her about it.

In retail, girls sometimes were rings that look similar to engagement or wedding rings, to discourage unwanted advances, even though it hardly works.

@pixy. Wow really? I didn't know that about moving it to your right hand if your spouse dies. In Europe and some other places, the right ring finger is for when you are engaged and the ring is moved to your left ring finger when you get married. If my fingers weren't totally different sizes, I would do it that way, haha.

Ask her. And ensure you compare her answer with answers from people who know her, could be she's telling the truth or a lie.

As far as wedding ring in the left or right hand, it's cultural. People here commonly would wear wedding ring on the right hand. Ring on the left hand is usually telling that the person is engaged.

I think so. My mother told me. It's what my grandmother did when my grandfather died. But I suppose it's a cultural thing. My grandmother grew up in NB, Canada and her family was British.

We should start a thread on the different cultural traditions!
