I woke up with gum in my hair this morning because I fell asleep (yet again) with gum in my hair. This happens to me about once every six months and it's my own fault, obviously. There was indeed a reason why my mother threatened to call me every night when I went to college: to ask, "Did you spit your gum out?" Since my hair is curly and in sort of choppy layers, I just cut the gum out this morning. I didn't even feel like trying to actually save my hair.

Another dumb moment of mine (among many, to be sure) involves a *little* kitchen accident. However, it's slightly R-rated, so I can't share it here openly. Haha.

WHAT'S SOMETHING DUMB THAT YOU'VE DONE? Guys, jump in too!!! And lots of people better jump in too, because I need to know I'm not the only one who can't handle something as basic as the spitting out of gum before going to bed.

I have an R rated one too...but it's so dumb I couldnt believe it happened.

Ok one time i was vacuuming and using the plug for the washing machine so it was kind of high. and when i was done vacuuming i yanked the cord out from the plug and slung toward me and hit me right on the bottom lip.

well, it busted my lip and everyone at church and work asked me what happened and i was so darn embarassed to tell them what a ding dong i was.

Nearly all of my dumb moments I can think of are at least PG-13 if not R. One of my PG dumb moments was, I was soooo tired but had to use the bathroom. I was using the small one in the house, and when I went to sit on the toilet (this is rated PG for potty humor, hahaha jk) I leaned too far forward, and the counter with the sink happened to be right there. I hit my head on the corner of it so hard that I had a HUGE lump and bruise on my forehead.

Oh I just remembered another dumb moment! (Rated PG for situations of peril.) My cousin and I used to do dumb stuff together all the time. One of my favorite memories is when she and I went to the river about a mile or so from her dad's house, and it was March so all the paths to the river had grown over. She wanted to go swimming, even though it was freezing. So we followed what we hoped was the path we usually took. We actually made it where we normally went in, but it's March so the river was way higher than we thought (or rather, we didn't think at all haha) so we couldn't even get to the bank because, well, there was no bank to get to! So we start fighting our way through the brush to go further downstream. We get to a spot that's clear, but it's about a 3 or 4 foot straight drop (in my mind, later in the story, it was about a 6 foot straight drop haha) from the overhang to the water. But there was this nice gravel bank in the middle of the river, and I thought that would be great because my cousin wanted to swim but didn't want to be alone, and I was too cold to swim. There happened to be this huge log laying right there on the bank. It just seemed so meant to be! I got this brilliant idea to push the long into the river, climb down onto it, and use it like a raft to paddle our way across to the gravel bank in the middle. So, we roll it off the edge, jump down onto the log, and we're ready to go. My cousin was in the front and she was trying to turn it straight, but the river was really fast so the log kept trying to turn downstream. Then it started to actually MOVE downstream. So she's yelling at me to keep the log from moving, so I'm hanging onto the branches overhead trying to hold us in place. It's just too strong and fast of a current for her to point us across the river. And It's also too strong and fast for me to keep us from going. Then the log starts to roll... I have a split second choice between climbing off or us both being dumped in the water. My cousin had no such choice as there were no overhanging branches where she was... I think it's important to add here that I am TERRIFIED of nutrea. Course, I'm also terrified of water, haha. Anyway, rather than getting dumped off the log, I get a good grip on the branches and pull myself off of the log. It stops turning, so thankfully my cousin didn't get dumped. However...she DID start going downstream on the log! And it carried her away from the bank so there was no getting off, without jumping in of course but that likely would've been very unsafe. Yes, yes, I know. None of this was particularly safe or intelligent. But we were a couple of farm girls just kickin it in nature. This was what we did ALL the time. Well, not this EXACTLY. This was likely our dumbest moment. Anyway, to continue... I'm watching her float away and I'm terrified for her safety, and we're screaming to each other. Then I see the log carry her over to another bank a ways down the river, and I see her get off so I know she's safe, but it was about a 30 foot climb up a steep hill COVERED in blackberry bushes for her to get back to the road, so I thought she would need help. So I'm scrambling to get out, but it was deeper than I thought it would be on the edge of the bank. Which by the way, if you don't know anything about nutrea, that is where they live. Anyway, I'm kind of kicking my feet around trying to find some sort of footing while still clinging desperately to the branches overhanging the "6 foot" ledge. Then I felt something brush against my foot... So I of course scream hysterically and start panicking, absolutely convinced it is a nutrea and that it is going to eat me. Course I realized after a minute that it was actually just a submerged fallen tree, but still... But being like most small submerged trees, it was not stable footing. I finally managed to just used the overhanging branches and the roots sticking out of the bank to climb up. I then had to fight my way through the brush and trees to find where we had initially come in. I found it and was about to start heading down the road to go get her, but then I saw her sloshing her way down the road (she had one boot full of water and had lost the other boot to the river). I guess she had it easy because the bank she was on happened to have a clearcut path up the hill to the road and a ROPE that someone had put there. Lucky duck.

Anyway, good times good times. But I think that qualifies as a dumb moment, right? If so, I've got plenty of those, but that was the worst hahaha.

Oh, and that first sentence of my first post is supposed to say that I fell asleep w/ gum in my mouth, not in my hair. I'm not so dumb as to purposefully stick gum in my hair before falling to sleep. haha.

Well next time it happens use dry gin to dissolve it. It should be safe for your hair :)

Probably two of the dumbest things I ever did, I did while remodeling my house. I bought the house as a fixer-upper, and while laying new subfloors in the kitchen and entry way, I caught my fingers under the plywood I was dropping into place. I'd cut it well-it fit very snuggly. But I really didn't want to find that out the way I did! The other time was when I was hanging the upper cabinets-again by myself. I had one nailed into place, but I guess somehow I missed the stud. I let go to reach for another nail, and it fell off the wall, leaving a good sized knot on my forehead.

Dumbest thing I've done while driving: backed into a tree. (inanimate objects don't move when they see reverse lights)

And I've caught my hair on fire twice-once doing an art project in college, and again not long after (or before?) blowing out the candles on my birthday cake!

Once I fell down the stairs and put my knee through the sheetrock wall, leaving a big base-ball sized hole in the wall.

When I was younger and more impressionable, I let one of my friends convince me to get in the car and move it (I was 12 or so).

This is probably the dumbest thing, though: I used to work as a programmer for a water company. I hung out with electricians all day. My computer at home didn't work, so I took apart the on/off switch that went to the power supply, and because I'd seen electricians mess with wires, I thought I knew what I was doing. So I plug the computer into the wall and out of the wall socket comes ball lightning! Then it sunk back into the outlet (no lie!) with a horrendous Boooommm! I had tripped the main circuit breaker.

That taught me good. I don't play with electricity any more.

My family has an affinity for fireworks. Well, actually, my brothers and I have an affinity for things that explode in general. Whatever. Right before New Years Eve, we collect money from the neighborhood families and drive up to South Carolina to get fireworks. We don't waste our time on firecrackers, bottle rockets, spinners, fountains, or even roman candles. Instead, we spend all the money on mortars.

If you don't know what those are, it's a thick cardboard tube with a base that stands up that you drop rounds the size of fat, small pinecones in, and when they shoot off, they look a lot like commercial fireworks.

When it turns midnight, the neighbors gather outside between the two ponds, and we do a pretty serious firework show for them. It better be serious, considering that the budget is usually well over $100 for the night.

Anyways, one year we (meaning me) accidentally mixed up which tube went with which box, and I put a slightly too large round into a slightly too small tube. Not aware of the problem this could cause, I lit it and stepped back 25 feet or so. The rocket stage ignited, but the round got stuck. The force was enough to lift the whole thing into the air about 6 inches before the "report" stage went off. As impressive as those things are 200+ feet in the air, let me tell you, they're even more impressive (and significantly more singe-y) when they go off just above the ground. Needless to say, we were much more careful with the next couple boxes!
