Should we travel in pairs or a group?
Posted : 5 Oct, 2010 11:26 PM

I believe we should never travel anywhere too far alone for safety reasons.

Too many people get injured, or go missing. My mother always sent us places in a pair or group. And to this day, it's still instilled in me.

What is your opinion?

Are you talking about whether a couple should go out alone v. on double dates?

Three years ago I took a week long vacation by myself. To say it was awesome would be the understatement of the decade.

You can't live (or shouldn't) by fear. I use wisdom when going out. I don't go to convienence stores alone in the middle of the night, that type of thing. I think saying I will always travel in pairs or in a group is putting myself in a box & could lead to missed opportunities. As well as the fact that traveling in a group or pair doesn't gaurantee that someone won't come up missing or that nothing will happen..

I am a child of God & bad stuff doesn't just randomly happen to me. I've gotten warnings from the Holy Spirit not to go to places I was on my way to. If I listen, I stay on the right path & under His umbrella of protection. I believe we foolishly get ourselves into situations and God either steps in and prevents it or helps us while we go thru the consequences OR we are pre-ordained to suffer certain things (trials, adversity, etc..) and God gives us the grace to suffer thru it cause it's part of our making & spiritual growth.

I think it depends on what u want. If u want to enjoy urself, goin alone would be great. If u want to enjoy ur partner, going for two is ok as well. But going for four person would be the best, I think, since those four travellers could be together in one cab and it's cost efficiency :nahnah:

Going with how babygirl and JesusLoves understood the question (why am I always the weird one who can't grasp basic question?)...

I love alone and I go out alone nearly all of the time. It would simply be inconvenient to call somebody up every time I wanted to step out the front door. And errands and stuff are just easier w/out someone there to distract me. It's distracting enough that I seem to get an abundance of phone calls (on my cell) while I'm at the store... LOL

However, I went out alone on August 30 to this town about an hour away to run an errand and I stopped off at this waterfront park and walked out to this strip of beach that happened to be a little secluded. And, what do you know, my psychotic ex-boyfriend (who had been harassing me for several weeks) had followed me and snuck up on and raped me right there on the beach. And no, I wasn't wearing a bikini or anything immodest. Just wanted to say that before anyone asks.

So, now I am a little afraid of walking out my door, but that fear doesn't fear normal and I know it will get better. And I don't want to live in fear even though I know how vulnerable I am. So while there may be something to not going places alone, I probably still will.

Pixy, you think deep, so you read 'into' questions. I know, I do the same thing!

I will also add, growing up in the hood has made me unafraid to be where ever I am. How you carry yourself many times determines who will step to you. Oh, and I also carry my 9mil 380, Madea style in case someone mistakes me for a mark.

Well, punk...do you feel lucky?

I'm going to be the oddball here and say I prefer to go places with another person or a group. For safety reasons, yes, but also because I just find it more enjoyable to share whatever I'm doing with another person, be it a friend or a family member. Having someone else there takes away the mundane if its just an errand, or adds joy if its something fun.

Pix, I misunderstood questions for several times as well lol :p :p :p hehehe :p :p :p

Anyway, yeah, personally I am a little afraid to go to a new place alone, I can't read maps and I get lost a lot since I can't read directions lol

Btw, Pix, thanks for sharing the story of how u were raped when u were alone. It gives us warnings to stay alert everytime and everywhere we go

=)

I never mind going places alone as long as it's just around town and I have a purpose for being out and about. Vacations and "fun" outings, though, are times when I want to go with someone, or have someone go with me. It's not even a safety issue...I just enjoy spending time with people!

Well, I tend to like people, so I tend to like doing things with them. Safety isn't really why I like to do things with them though. I mean, sure I live Atlanta, but traveling in groups hasn't stopped people from being mugged at shotgun-point just off campus. Maybe I'm a little naive, but I trust in God to protect me. Maybe I'm not as trusting as I sound, since I carry a very sharp Benchmade. I've also got my eyes on a Springfield XD.40 Subcompact. As much as I like .357 revolvers, the 10 round capacity of the XD is more comforting.

@babygirl: Yeah, maybe that's it =)

@JesusLoves: Well, I'm glad to share if it does serve as a warning or some kind of help to others. I must admit that I wasn't very alert. I was actually sitting there praying when he attacked me. My eyes were closed and I was praying out loud and just completely unaware of anything going on around me. Not that it's bad or wrong to sit alone on a beach praying, but it was a bit secluded that day. I just didn't think something would happen outside like that, out in the broad daylight. I used to go jogging down at this one track in a not-so-great neighbourhood, in the middle of the night!!! And nothing ever happened there. And I never felt like I wasn't safe being outside alone... Lessons learned, I guess... I still go out alone, but not to secluded places where others wouldn't see if someone attacked me.
