s.o.s. needs advise: is "tomboy" an apropriate term

ok..

this is a question that i speifically want a girls point of view on .

well i guess ill start with the fact that i dont realy like girly girls . i dont find anyfault in them and by no means will i inore a possible god match just because there a girly girl . but i prefere a girl that knows how to get dirty and have some fun (i mean that in a clean way). i like a girl that isnt afraid of the outdoors or activites like fishing, hunting , camping , or sports. i also like a girl that can hang out like one of the guys from time to time and isnt obsessed with makeup and cloths .

i recently been using the term "tomboy" to descibe the kind of females that i enjoy onversating with .

is this an apropriate term or can it be a little offensive, unwelcomed, or steriotypical?

i would like u girls to give me advice as to if this frase is ok and if not i ask if u can give me a better term that would be more acceptible to a young lady.

thanks:waving:

Hmm...interesting question. I personally don't think that "tomboy" is offensive. But then again, I live in an area where the 4th of July parade included ATVs, septic tank trucks, motorcycles, and horses...among all the church floats, pest control companies' trucks, hotrod cars, and of course the confederate soldiers. Can you say "redneck"? lol

I was told by a friend (whom I had not met at the time...we met on this site last summer, moved to Facebook last fall, and only recently met in person) that some of my pictures looked very girly, while others showed a more tomboyish side to me. I didn't mind him making that observation at all. He was exactly right.

I think it probably depends on the girl though. Before you call someone a tomboy to her face (or even via IM or email), you might want to feel out the situation a bit! In my circle of friends, the tomboys are quick to admit that they are that way, and are often quite proud of that status.

Tomboy is usually used to refer to young girls who are tough and like stereotypical boy activities. I can not think of another appropriate word. The good news is that women who are tomboys, know that they are and usually wear the title proudly.

I'm not a young lady, but the term "tomboy" is immediately recognizable to me and I don't find it offensive. Been one my whole life, so there is nothing offensive about it! lol Perhaps the younger ladies may have a different perspective.

My only caution to you is ---- having read a good number of men's profiles over the past three years, I can tell you it is sometimes intimidating when a man stipulates I "MUST" enjoy hiking, biking, camping, fishing, hunting...... etc, fill in the blank. My suggestion is for you to allow a lady to be exposed to those things, to see if she would like them. For instance, I have done tent camping and hiking. I have not done fishing, but I would like to. If you and I were interested in each other, would you still give me a chance, since I did not meet each of your criteria? I guess what I'm saying is to not limit yourself too much to all the things a girl "Must" like to be a good match for you.
