not sure what to do, if anything

ladies, please help me with this one...in my church, especially as it gets warmer, some of the ladies come in to church with how shall i say...shorter and shorter dresses/skirts. i can understand it being hot, but what should i say, if i should say anything, to them about this? some of us guys feel a little uncomfortable with them coming like this, but is it our place to really say something, should we just talk to the pastoral staff about it, or just leave it alone?

Ninja, I think this would fall under the Titus 2 command for the older women to teach the younger women. I would have a chat w/ one of the women who is being modest--probably someone older than the majority of the women w/ the modesty issue. Explain the problem and ask if she could have a chat with some of the younger ladies.

Also, I would talk with the pastor and ask him to incorporate some lessons on modesty in his sermons and/or the church's Sunday school classes and Bible studies.

You should be hesitant to speak w/ one the immodest ladies, personally, unless you are a close friend of the lady. I doubt your rebuke would be well-received. The topic is better addressed by another woman or through the typical teaching methods of the church.

Ultimately, modesty begins at home. Parents need to train their daughters (and sons) to dress appropriately and guide them towards good decision making in that area that will hopefully lend itself to modest choices in adulthood.

Yeah...pixy hit it. Don't tell them yourself. They won't want to hear it from a guy. They'll probably label you pretty quick.

Wow Pixy...

...you should have a Column or something. That was very well put and placed! Very nicely worded and it made a lot of sense.

Kudos!

Pixy said it. We had a Youth Pastor who had shirts and t-shirts available every time the Youth got together for just this purpose. As the kids would arrive they would be given a once over by the adults in charge, and sometimes one would be led aside and given a choice of shirts to put on.

You can't do that in a regular service, of course. Some people just don't realize how they come across, some are not familiar enough with a church environment to know what is appropriate, and some just don't have anything else to wear. So letting the leaders handle it is the best way.

Pixy nailed it! Teen girls especially aren't aware of how big an issue this is. I think as a church we could be doing a much better job at addressing these issues along with other topics that tend to not be discussed in church.

I hope it all goes well!! We as christian gals should be supporting encouraging our brothers not acting/behaving or dressing as a stumbling block.
