There hasn't been a pattern that I can see as far as who breaks up with who, but there has been a strong pattern of them ending in great balls of fire, which has turned me off to the idea of a long distance relationship.

Yes, long distance relationships in my opinion are not a good idea unless....

If you already have an established relationship and have spent time in each other's presence then being apart and maintaining that relationship is possible. Take me for example. I was married for 3 years and we had dated for 3.5 (college). My ex went to a war zone (Bosnia) for 6 months. It actually grew us closer together (distance making the heart grow fonder).

If the long distance time frame is prolonged it is possible to grow apart because the couple doesn't have the advantage of adjusting to each other as they evolve and mature. When they come back together, to each other they may seem like totally different people.

Not that I've given this subject much thought or anything.

Oh, and I also meant to say, that true chemistry and compatibility can only be gaged when you are in someone's presence.

As with my blind date experience, you can have a good experience and seemingly good chemistry on the phone and email, and it be TOTALLY different when you get together. :toomuch:

Tell me about it. My last girlfriend lived an hour away and we hardly got to see each other. We got along great on the phone/texts/instant messaging, but we just didn't click in person. Needless to say, that relationship did not last long.

As long as a guy lives about 90 minutes or less away from me, I wouldn't consider it a long distance relationship. The last guy I dated lived that far away, and I don't think it had anything to do with the relationship not lasting. We saw each other about once a week, and talked via IM, phone, and email the rest of the week. Even had we lived in the same town, I don't know that we would have seen each other more frequently just because of our work schedules.

The only way I'd do a much longer distance relationship is if I met the guy in person first, we spent a good bit of time together over a period of a few days, and we really clicked. Then I would be willing to try the long distance thing. But I really don't think it would be easy! I kinda like to be able to actually spend time with a person, and long distance would make that really, really difficult!

Mark, most of the talk here has been kinda negative because of our own bad experiences, but we know with God, nothing is impossible. I wish you the very best.

I think LD relationships can work. Its most often a number of factors that attribute to the success of one including chemistry (enough that says, hey "we can try to give this a go anyway"), level of spiritual maturity and maturity in general as well, and the willingness of both persons to compromise just a little because of the distance. If God is in our lives, and we allow God to be the one to direct our steps with one another, anything is possible for a positive outcome.

While, as in previous posts about this topic, obviously for some, relocating is NOT an option, so many rule out distance all together, and that is ones perogative in there perusal of selecting or not selecting.

Seriously though, it could be the woman or the man that boughs out dependent on these things. Patience, persistence and faith have a lot to do I think, with the success of having a long distance relationship. ~ GraceMae

I know babygirl. I think I was unconsciously attempting to inspire hope through sarcasm...not good bedfellows, lol.
