Chivalry is behaving towards someone in a manner that makes that person feel special. Opening doors, holding a chair, walking on the traffic side of the sidewalk, standing when a lady enters the room, offering a lady his chair if none other is available, offering a lady his arm while escorting her...ok, so maybe that's just a little TOO chivalrous! But basically, it's behaving in a manner befitting a gentleman. It's putting others (men or women) first. It's being willing to sacrifice his own comfort for the comfort of another. It's being protective of those around you.

Chivalry is nearly dead, in my opinion. I've had too many guys let the door slam in my face, take the last seat in the room, hurry me along by walking quickly several paces in front of me, just be plain rude to me, etc. to give me much reason to assume that a guy is chivalrous.

But occasionally you can find rare treasures: guys who still could be called chivalrous. I'm dating one of them. I've never felt so cherished, protected, and safe (but certainly not smothered or suppressed) as when I'm with him.

Hmm...I just noticed you asked about "chivary" not "chivalry"...

According to WikiAnswers, chivary is: " Part of the post-wedding ceremony where the bridge and groom were teased and pranks were played on their wedding night."

Not sure which you really meant...chivary or chivalry. So now you know about both!

I believe the answer Dennis is looking for is quite clear.

Dennis is looking for the "bridge" between a "groom" and a "Chivalrous" "chivarator".

You see...while pranking someone there is a need to be respectful of property and "one's dignity". So there has to a "half-way" point between "all out pranking" and "demure...respectful...well-wishing".
