Joel Osteen

I am wondering what people think of his sermons/or him? Do some people believe he sugarcoats subjects?

I don't know what most people think about him.

2 Timothy 4

1In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encouragewith great patience and careful instruction. 3For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

Why does it matter? I don't understand why people choose to be so criticle of Evangilists, Preachers, Teachers, Pastors, etc. etc. etc. on T.V. If just one" person hears the message of Salvation in any form...then I'd say "Praise GOD" for the seed has been planted and thats a Good thing. I watched Joel for years and received much "Word" through his ministry. I'd much rather Praise God for Joel than to Damm Joel for God...We are all one in Christ. Let us act accordingly, with Love and in the Spirit....xo

Coming out of the Jesus freak era of the 70s, I do not see the Holy Spirit gospel being preached anymore in most churches. What I observe and cannot swallow is called: "post modernism" or "the other gospel" Paul warned about.

I will not judge Joel Olsteen's soul but his preaching is NOT the GOSPEL Paul preached. On a Larry King live interview Joel flat out said he will NOT preach hell, or touch the abortion/homosexual issues, that he will use the word: "sinners" and that he will not say if a jew or muslim is going to heaven if they have not accepted Jesus. Many of his followers were so upset with him, he had to make a statement to calm the crowds. He still will NOT say JESUS CHRIST IS THE ONLY WAY TO HEAVEN when preaching.

Watch for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMwW6Q1JfAA

People are answering alter calls and turning right around and living unto themselves and their old lifestyles.I see a lot of so called believers that do not live for Him on a daily basis and feel no conviction for it. Faith without works is dead and there is no fruit in their lives.

The preaching of the gospel of JESUS CHRIST brings conviction if you are not saved or practicing a sinful lifestyle, it will cause REPENTANCE, a turning away from your old sins.

Acts 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

It does matter because we all are commanded to preach the GOSPEL of JESUS CHRIST and Paul said there is another gospel and another JESUS with damning DANGER in preaching the wrong one.

But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed." Galatians 1:8, 9

But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. (II Corinthians 11:3-4

The gospel of Jesus or repentance is the gospel for the church era and will bring conviction on those who hear it rather than a "feel good" gospel. This is the gospel that Paul called "his" and is about what Christ did for us and our responsibility to respond in obedience to it.

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 1Cor 15:3,4

We are commanded to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ~and warn them(in love) of eternity in hell if it is rejected.

Mark 16:15 And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 "He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.

Defin. of the GOSPEL: Gospel" is from old English roots meaning "good news". The Gospel is the heart of the Christian message: that Christ died for us, and that ONLY through HIM we can be reconciled to God and live in communion with him and avoid a sinners hell.

Amen justjoey, couldnt agree more!Any one who really reads the bible will instantly see that this man does not preach the gospel.

No where in the bible does it say that man should have "high self esteem" or that everyone should be rich and well all the time.......The lord says we all deserve Death and hell,

The only reason we are saved is because Jesus died in our place.

His perfect rightousness is given to us undeservedly

It is a free gift so we cant brag about it

I wouldnt want to be Osteen on judgement day

Unless of course he gets salvation.

He will be responsable for leading a lot of people astray

Luke 9:23-26 [23] Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. [24] For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. [25] What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self? Of course God gives us things, but if your faith is based on what you get on this earth then what happens when you lose everything? If your wife dies in a wreck if your kids die in a flood and you lose your house, car, job and freedom what will your God be to you then? It happened to Job didnt it? Yet God was still worthy of praise. if God never gave you or any human the gift of salvation would he still be worth of praise? Ill answer for you,Yes. After all he didnt make a way for satan and his fallen angels did he? But he is still worthy of praise! It is easy to praise him when you get good things but when you praise him in the midst of pain it shows to the world how worth and holy he really is

Hi yall, ....In all sincerity...I understand where you are all coming from. I see much the same on a daily basis of people turning to Jesus and yet still remain Secular. It breaks my heart and grieves the Spirit to see this. We as Humans have the ability to choose right from wrong. Sometimes people choose wrong. As Christains we come to God as a Child and as children we will error and we will fall down. We will and do judge others based on what we like or don't like about them. Its human nature to do this but I am not going to buy into or paticipate in bashing a Man because some people believe he is a false prophet (what did he do that is so wrong?) or do not like his way of preaching (preferance/opinion) or do not recieve "Word" through his sermons. Its just wrong...for this Christain anyway...I choose to Praise and not Damm. I choose to Love and not Hate. The Greatest Commandment Jesus gave is to LOVE...xo

"As God can send a nation or people no greater blessing than to give them faithful, sincere, and upright ministers, so the greatest curse that God can possibly send upon a people in this world, is to give them over to blind, unregenerate, carnal, lukewarm, and unskilled guides."

- George Whitefield in "The Method of Grace"

Hi I am going to use my common sense (to me) on this question. I could quote the scriptuers that would help you deside why I would judge my answers toward this question but I want to just tell it like it is the way I do in real life as if you were face to face with me. Part of the reasons I can judge a common question is because I do have the word of knowledg to help my walk in this life.

ok now the answer I think the next time any one watches this man Joel Osteen is to remember how SWEET the HOLY SPIRIT is to us. May be this will help you relax and enjoy his sermons next time and yes I do think he sugercoats his sermon but I am in ahhh to be hearing the sweetness of the Holy Spirit any ways. I dont think the Joel Osteen does the message on his own...Just saying....do you? remember dont be to quick to judge who or what your listening to Christ gave this man to see that Chist is still with us...Just saying again...
