Hi Ladies, love is the most oft cited virtue that is desired in a man after a heart for God. I would appreciate your wisdom and insights on the subject. :)

Col 3 12:17

Put on then, as Gods chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

It is verse 14 which has recently been encouraging and helped to give me an understanding of God's love.

Cliche as it has become, I'm still a fan of I Corinthians 13: 1-13.

8 I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if ye find my beloved, that ye tell him, that I am sick of love.

9 What is thy beloved more than another beloved, O thou fairest among women? what is thy beloved more than another beloved, that thou dost so charge us?

10 My beloved is white and ruddy, the chiefest among ten thousand.

11 His head is as the most fine gold, his locks are bushy, and black as a raven.

12 His eyes are as the eyes of doves by the rivers of waters, washed with milk, and fitly set.

13 His cheeks are as a bed of spices, as sweet flowers: his lips like lilies, dropping sweet smelling myrrh.

14 His hands are as gold rings set with the beryl: his belly is as bright ivory overlaid with sapphires.

15 His legs are as pillars of marble, set upon sockets of fine gold: his countenance is as Lebanon, excellent as the cedars.

16 His mouth is most sweet: yea, he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved, and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem.

"The chiefest among ten thousand."

After reading something like that, it's hard NOT believe in true love.

Love is nothing but a beating of our heart; ain't nothing but the air we're breathing.

When you found out what it means - it actually means love is everything.

Alot of people say the word love but there is rarely evidence behind the word..I hear this, I love you with the love of the Lord?? Reallly?? Love means speaking in season and out of season, that means when you want to hear the truth of Gods word and even when you do not..

Love means laying down your life for another,, I find turning the other cheek very painful, keeps getting slapped silly.. And I may not react to it exactly the way I would like at first.. And may have to humble myself and apologize to someone for how I reacted to their not loving me.

Love means that we are to Love the Lord with all that is within us and to love others as we love ourselves. But often times we do not love our own selves and that makes it extremely difficult to truly love others.

Love is a word that has been thrown around in the world and in the church.. True love defined is in 1 Corinthians 13, it looks so different than what the world says love is..it is only in falling in love with Jesus that we can know true love and desire to love with a pure heart and motive..

You have asked a difficult question? And I'm not sure I answered it the way you would have liked, I often don't!! LOL.. But, I know what it is and I know what it ISN"T.. I just have truly not seen it demonstrated very often in my own lifetime..

Thankyou Smiley :D

Love can often be "popular" to preach but unpopular to practice.

It is the phrase "put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony" because it seems that we have attributes that we may possess but it is love that brings them together. So to love is to want and do the best for others.

I love the Song of Solomon and see it as true love in every way.

Love is verb. Respect, understanding, compassion, serving, being lovingly honest, fiercely loyal and considering the other above yourself. :purpleangel:

Last night in Church my Pastor's wife was teaching and she was saying almost verbatim what I have spoken here. Then my Pastor got up and repeated almost verbatim what I said to another christian brother about the enemy never sleeps and he is good at what he does..kill, steal and to destroy..

I sat in the pew stunned and then I realized it was the Lord speaking through us the same things.. The Lord wants us to realize what is happening around us..

We must have the fruit of the spirit and when we do we will begin to love others like Christ loves the Church willingly laying down our lives for one another..And that includes opening our mouths and sharing the gospel with those who are lukewarm, backslidden and lost.
