Just for fun with a little piece of truth thrown in...For all you single ladies who are in a hurry to get a fella, here's a quick piece of Biblical advice: Ruth patiently waited for her mate Boaz. While waiting on YOUR Boaz, don't settle for ANY of his relatives: Brokeaz, Poaz, Lyinaz, Cheatinaz, Dumbaz, Cheapaz, Lockedupaz Goodfornothinaz, Lazyaz or Marriedaz and especially his third cousin Beatinyoaz. Please, wait on your Boaz & make sure he repects Yoaz!

You're God's Best!!!

Sterling

Ruth didn't exactly wait, she is the one who proposed marriage.

I dont see anywhere in the Bible where it states the RIGHT way to find someone. The important part is the marriage, not how you go about finding that person.

In the middle-eastern culture, a marriage is usually arraigned. This does not mean that the woman or the man has no choice in the marriage, but that the parents usually help them narrow down the choices. What will happen is that the father of the man will search and find a few women that he feels are good candidates for a wife. Normally a good father would listen to his son and try to take into account some of his sons preferences in a wife. He would speak to her parents and get to know about the character of the woman. Once the choices are made, the couple would meet and spend some time getting to know each other, say a day or so. I the woman liked the guy, she would go to where the man was sleeping, lay down at his feet, and cover herself with his cloak. This is a sign that the woman wants to marry him. This is actually still done today amongst many of the nomadic tribes.

In the Ruth and Boaz story, Ruth does not have her father, so Naomi arranges the marriage by telling Ruth to lay down at Boazs feet. Ruth did not have to marry Boaz, but apparently she did like him, and offered herself in marriage to him.

So, you really cant use the Bible story directly to provide examples of what to do today, because it was an arranged marriage. If anything, what could be said is that the closest thing to a Biblical dating relationship today is a courtship, where there is a parent or protector who screens potential mates and follows the progression of the relationship.

There's that preference word...

Naomi didn't tell Ruth to take action until Boaz had shown interest inher. Boaz made sure his servants didn't keep Ruth away from his filed and told them to make sure there was food for her.

Ruth left her heritage to follow the true God. She took care of her mother-in-law and listened to her advice. How many times do we ignore the advice of those with more experience to do what we want to do? Too often...for me anyways.

There are many stories of mail order brides, arranged marriages, marriages out of desperation (old west stories) of people marrying and having successful marriages. Love came later...

Yes, I do know what fun is.

There is fun, and then there is crudeness. Unfortunately this is one of those that sort of crosses the line for me. Yes I can see the humor in it, but the choice of words is a bit crude.

Dialogue and discussion is good...after the first post or two...it always gets interesting. It's amazing the turns some of these threads take.
