Changing your maiden namePosted : 8 Jun, 2011 11:36 AMMy Dad is an only child who has two daughters. I kept my maiden name and hyphenated my former husband's name (with his permission). It is long, but it makes Dad smile when he writes, reads or says it. |

Changing your maiden namePosted : 8 Jun, 2011 12:37 PMSimilar to what Ridley said, my family's name will stop with my father's generation. He has two brothers, but neither of them had children; my father only had girls. So, once we all get married, the name will stop for this particular branch of the family tree. |

Changing your maiden namePosted : 8 Jun, 2011 02:11 PMTo me, it's more important for a last name to be practical rather than traditional. My last name is not unique at all, yet unpronounceable at the same time (weird paradox, but it's from a different language). The original plan was to ditch it without a second thought, but now the plan is to get some publications in the scientific literature, so like my mother, I will probably be stuck with my maiden name to avoid confusion on resumes, etc. The other thing I thought of it hyphenating on official documents, using my original last name at work, and my husbands in everything outside work, although I'm not sure if that's potentially unwieldy for people who might know me in multiple settings. |

Changing your maiden namePosted : 8 Jun, 2011 07:31 PMDaddy has two daughters, but my uncle has a son. I hadn't ever considered keeping my maiden name. Not as disrespect for my father, but out of respect for my husband; similar to BC. I think it would be a constant reminder of disrespect for my husband..no matter the length of his last name. Plus, my father would not expect me to keep his name..no disrespect there. |

Changing your maiden namePosted : 9 Jun, 2011 02:07 AMWell here in the Philippines once a woman gets married, her husbands surname would also be her surname and her last name would then be her middle or maiden name. |

Changing your maiden namePosted : 10 Jun, 2011 02:24 PMI just remembered a conversation I had with a guy at church several weeks ago. He said that if he met a girl who didn't want to take his last name, he would consider that to be a huge red flag because he would feel that she wasn't fully committing herself to the marriage. He also said that he would wonder if she was keeping things simple in case she decided she wanted a divorce and wanted to return to her maiden name. |

Changing your maiden namePosted : 10 Jun, 2011 02:32 PMOk the guy last name is "weiner." Would you like to be introduced as Mrs. Weiner? I guess it would be a good conversation starter. |

Changing your maiden namePosted : 10 Jun, 2011 03:26 PMh e double hockey stick to the YA I will take my husbands last name! :) Well first off, when I leave my daddies covering (meaning I have his last name as well) and I transition to my husbands covering obviously I will be taking his last name. Its not just a legal thing, but I find it a symbolic thing too! Not just the ring, but carrying his last name is a way I can show honor and respect to my husband plus other things! I can't wait to replace my maiden last name with my husbands! Yay! hahaha :) |
