I used to think that, but we each have our individual calling/gift that God uses. when you get married your gifts will work together (hopefully) :glow:

I have felt very strongly since my high school years that my "calling" from God was to be a Godly wife and mother, and raise my children to love Him. So yeah, I'd need a spouse to fulfill that calling.

I've wondered, though, if I might have mistaken my calling, since a spouse doesn't seem to be appearing. Maybe I'm fulfilling my calling already...if my calling is to be a teacher, then no, I don't need a spouse.

I am beginning to think that there isn't necessarily one calling per life.

If I choose Bible college A over Bible college B, is college B wrong? If I choose Mr. A to marry because he is going to be a minister and then years later he chooses to forsake his faith, then what happens to my calling to be a ministers wife? Does God want me to work for company A instead of company B if they are basically the same thing?

So I think that our "calling" is more spiritual, where ever we are and what ever we are doing we should be ministering. Some people have the talent/gifts of preaching and some for working in the nursery and some for sitting at home and praying.

So in answer to your question yes and no. If I am not married I do not need a spouse to fulfill my calling and if I am married than I do need a spouse to fulfill my calling.

I hope that doesn't sound wishy-washy.

Yes, I do believe that the fullness of my calling involves a spouse. The ministry that God has been shaping me for would be best accomplished with a spouse by my side. Furthermore, I think that a huge aspect of that ministry and my personal healing and redemption will involve marriage and motherhood. I feel like God has very purposefully been preparing me to be a wife and mom. So, unless I'm totally not hearing God properly, I would definitely say that my future husband will be a part of my calling.

That said, I don't believe in just sitting around and waiting for a husband. We should be engaging as fully in our calling as women doing this season of singleness. God does have a purpose for us while we're single, and it's important that we not ignore that just because we anticipate things changing anyway once we're married.

If a Man or a Woman gets married and has kids; their spouse and children are their number one calling; all other callings are subsequent to this one; I can prove this with Scripture!

If a person is not willing to make their spouse and children their number one calling; they should not marry. Many a broken family is the result of a spouse thinking they have a calling more important than their spouse and children.

I only need God to fulfill my calling and God will fulfill the desires of my heart with His promises.

My calling is to glorify Him in everything I do. No small order but with God all things are possible.

I believe God's calling to christians is to witness to the lost and help the poor and needy.

James 1:27 KJV

Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

I believe we all have different gifts to meet that calling, but the calling for all is the same.

Ephesians 4:11-12 KJV

11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

God simply wants us to love Him and love the gift of salvation which He gave us so much, that we can't help but want to tell those around us, and glorify His name.

Isaiah 42:8 KJV

I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

Amen and amen!
