Should christians be doing this to their bodies? Is it biblically correct?

Have you every had piercing, tattoos done and now wish you didn`t?

Would you date someone that has?

Diidn`t Jesus take the ultimate tattoo and piercing for us?

I agree with 2spar on his first post.

I never got tattoos and for piercings, well just my ears :)

I like tattoos on a man (but not mandatory) as long as they are tastefully done (by a shop not a guy with a homemade machine). Piercings, I dont think I would date someone with piercings, just not my cup of tea...but who knows who God may put in my path :)

I have twin daughters ( complete opposites).

One has only her ears pierced and wears no make-up at all.

The other has eight tatoos and 3 piercings and says she wants more. I don't like her doing it but she's grown now and it's her choice. I still love them both the same and I KNOW Jesus does too.

Deborah there`s a reason why you don`t like your daughter getting tatoos, piercings, you know what that is?

It`s the same reason God doesn`t like His children doing it.

Yes, He still loves us... He can not love, He is love. That doesn`t mean he approves us of our doings.

victory, she isn't born again yet, but God promised me she would be saved. Who knows; once she accepts Christ as her Saviour maybe she'll want them all removed.

I just know I love her dearly no matter what.

As for myself I wouldn't get a tattoo---- I do have my ears pierced; but I'm not a big fan of pain.

Pray with me that she comes to know Jesus before she ends up with 50.:excited:

God Bless,

Deborah

Hey Debroah you got my pray

Acts 26:18

to open her eyes, so they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God. Then they will receive forgiveness for their sins and be given a place among God's people, who are set apart by faith in me.'

I don't see a problem with getting ones ears pierced,in general.(however I have not had the desire to do this)I do think the Bible makes it pretty clear that we as believers are not to conform to the world concerning piercings and tatoos all over our bodies.I agree with Sheperdess and chevy and their speaking out against it.We are not supposed to be going on our own feelings and whims in this life.As Christians the Bible is our standard.I agree with what another woman said also though,If you had the tatoos before you were saved leave well enough alone,God forgives and you are still someone I would date if your heart was right with the Lord now.I really don't like piercings on men because I see it as a feminine thing on the ears.Read your Bibles and ask God to show you what is right or wrong. No judgement on those who did,we all are at different stages in our walk with the Lord.As believers we are to stand out because of Jesus not just see how close to copying the world we can get.

I'd have to disagree with you on this. Yes, under the old covenant, the rules were quite stringent. But under the new covenant in Christ, we have liberty. If we are to take your reasoning that God never changes, and therefore his laws don't change, and apply this reasoning to all aspects of Christian life, then it would mean that all of the laws of leviticus hold true correct? so that means, not only should we be still sacrificing animals, it also means we shouldn't eat any meat not well done and many other similar rules. Question: do you have any clothing that is made of more than one material? well under this logic, you would be sinning, as leviticus 19:19 says not to wear clothing made with different materials.

Also, God himself has told us that his actions are not always the same, that he will not constantly do the same thing... example: I will not accuse them forever,

nor will I always be angry (Isaiah 57:16) or we can look at another passage: "my spirit will not always strive with man" (genesis 6:3)

God Himself has told us that his actions will not always be the same, therefore your reasoning that God never changes is incorrect.

When deciding things like tattoos and piercings, we must understand what liberty we have through the new covenant in Christ. 1Peter2:16 tells us that we have liberty and freedom, but it is upon us to make sure that we aren't using that liberty as a cloak for sinful desires. If something is not specifically outlined in the New Testament as sin, each person must pray and ask for guidance. each person must guide his actions with the principles in the new testament, (love for your neighbor, etc.) in doing so there will be some grey area. something may be a sin for one person if it causes a stumblingblock for his faith, but the same exact action might not be sin for someone else. this is why Paul tells us, regarding grey areas where we have liberty, that "every man should be fully convinced in his own mind" (see Romans 14:5)

to sum everything up: the old stringent laws of the old covenant hae been fulfilled and revised under the new covenant, we now have liberty in Christ and should follow the principles of the new testament. When something is not specifically outlined we have liberty to do as we please, but only if that liberty is not being used as a "cloak" for our lusts.

Interesting reply about the tattoos and peircings. I personally dont have any and have no desire to have anything but one hole in each ear. I think it does boil down to motives of our heart. Why are we wanting and getting tattoos and peircings?
