I notice some girls say "I want a man, don`t need a man."

What`s the difference?

Psalm 23... the Lord is my sheppard I shall not want.

Phillipians 4:19... My God shall supply all my needs (including a mate)

I just love how this "dead horse" seems to get drug into every conversation Arch has with TS. What do you do with a dead horse?

I really get sick of it for real.

I am curious why the word NEED is viewed negatively? Why do words like hate, sexist, manipulation, subserviant get associated with it?

As I like working out, I'll use that analogy. I NEED a training partner to get the most out of my work outs. I need someone to drag my tail end to the gym when I don't feel like it and I do the same for them. I NEED someone to motivate me to do that one last rep or sprint that one last distance and I do the same for them. YET, neither of us are inferior to the other, and it actually builds a bond of friendship. A quarterback NEEDS his linemen yet both are equal. As a medic I NEED a partner to run a call. The body NEEDS all it's part to be whole - can the body do without the heart? or the lungs? So NEEDing is not really a negative thing

I think at least for me it's the way it's been used.

When family and friends have said they "needed" a man, they meant they wanted someone to fulfill their fantasies. When they said I "needed" a man, they meant that I surely must be desperate or that I should act more provocative and a little stupid in order for the man to feel "needed". And yes, they were very blunt in what ways I should dress and act differently.

Like I said, I would have no problem saying I needed my husband, I don't think. But if I say I need someone and am not blessed to have that someone in my life, there is not one reasonable thing I can do about it. If I want a husband but never get one, I'll be fine and can direct my focus elsewhere.

Shawn,

I think it is the oldest lie in the Book : We we're told we didn't "Need" God and could do this thing without Him.

Now to add some more :toomuch:

Wasn't it the woman who believed this lie and gave the fruit to her husband?

Isn't it still true today, 'most' men can admit their need for a woman, yet 'most' modern women have difficulty in admitting their need of a man?

Oops! You pushed one of my hot button verses Two.

Genesis 3:6 (NASB)

6 When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.

and she gave also to her husband with her The common misconception is that Adam was somehow tricked into eating the fruit. Adam was right there, and he was also deceived by satan, he just let Eve do all the talking. BOTH Adam and Eve were deceived, you cant pawn it off on Eve.

Women are more likely to not need that special someone in their life. But, like Shawn said, we shouldnt attach such a negative connotation to need. Even scripture tells us that we need each other.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (NASB)

9 Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor.

10 For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up.

Personally, I think that you dont feel like you need someone in your life, you should just remain single. Needing one another is an important part of marriage.
