Missing Out?

This is a question for any Godly woman that would like to answer. I am asking because I am curious about what you all may think. I know that everyone have physical desires and things that they are attracted to etc..we all vary in that department. However, lets say you meet a guy who matches, exceeds, or meet every criteria you would want in a man : Godly in mind, body and spirit, attractive, thoughtful, respectful, strong (physically and mentally), a leader of his own heart before God, intelligent, good with children, considerate, listens and speaks well, a gentleman..an overall great guy. But he doesn't meet that one physical trait you may like..such as he is 10 lbs overweight, he may not have the right color skin or hair..or he may not be as tall as you would like. Do you pass this man up or is he worth giving a shot?

Please note that I am not attacking women or being biased etc..Yes, Ive been told Im not tall enough etc..Its kind of funny that these silly things are still issues even as I am getting older with some sisters..which I find kind of funny. It is just a social and cultural "norm" for a guy to be "tall" (above 5'6 lol). Why is that expected? Ive had women tell me that if I wasnt a short guy, Id have no problem with them. I think that that is not a Godly perspective at all. I am not having self confidence issues, so please dont think that lol. However, I am just curious as to what you all would do or say in this situation b/c not all women or people are the same. :) Thanks!

Okay,The first myth Id like to bust is that taller guys offer more protection.....not true. Before I became a christian I was a bar brawling heathen and i spent time in the prison.I know lots of Tall guys who are as weak as women and I whooped a few back in my day.

Second @GodsGirl23 Having a preference for physical charactiristics does not make you a racist, that word is thrown around too easily now days. She did not say she wanted to kill all black people or anything, all she said was she would rather date within her race.

I will say that as I get older I am more open to many different physical characteristics than when I was younger, but you cant force a physical attraction!

In Christ

...you really think that the only way people can be racist is to want to commit mass genocide?

If the word is "thrown around a lot nowadays" it's because racism is still alive and well. The more you know.

The problem with racism* is that who's definition of it do you use? Here in the UK I recall there being advice to the justice system that something is racist if the recipient believed it to be - i.e. whether something was racist or not was entirely the opinion of the person or group it was directed at, and their opinion was the law.

Of course, this is a completely unworkable system because two people of the same ethnicity may view the same thing differently with one believing it to be racist and the other not. Secondly how do you keep the right side of a law which is subjective and arbitary?

It's our inability to collectively agree what is and isn't racist that is causing problems because both sides are claiming rights they may not have. Such arguments are going on in many fields right now, such as secular & pro-choice movements who disagree that religion (and by extension, God) has a right to tell them what is right and wrong, whereas we generally accept that He has and does.

It's for these reasons that I don't care when people label me one way or the other as even Jesus was labelled!

*racism is a nonsense word as we all belong to the same race: the human race, and by extension, we all have the same features and failings.

I'm 6 ft tall and I've always been tall, and personally I have no problems being tall (unless its one of those days I keep bumping my head). I've always wanted a guy whose taller than me, but I'm realistic I know that I'm not going to come across too many people who are taller than me.

As for race, I really don't care much. I am fascinated by other cultures.

As for weight, I can't really comment one way or another, since I've been overweight almost my entire life, so it would be hypocritical for me to judge someone if they are overweight.

I'm not calling anyone out in particular; it is God that looks at the heart. But anyone who would discount a persion solely or primarily based on the color of their skin/race should take a serious look inward.

Discrimination on the basis of race is racism! Refusing to date someone of a particular race because of their race is racism! Pure and simple. It might not be on the level of the KKK or mob lynchings, but it is racism all the same.

I'm half-Cuban and I've met girls that have refused to date me solely on the basis of my race and my hispanic last name! I don't hold it against them personally. It saved me a whole lot of time from dating the wrong person! I'm not interested in being with anyone that would unjustly discriminate against a person in that way.

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of reasons to legitimately discriminate against a person. But race certainly isn't one of them!

Remember what happened when Miriam spoke out against Moses for marrying a Cushite woman and questioning his leadership who God had personally appointed? Yeah she was struck with Leprosy! I don't recall God giving Moses a lecture about marrying a darker skinned woman! How about Ruth and Boaz? Ruth was a foreigner in Israel and God used her and Boaz to usher in the line from which our Savoir was born!

I think we're taking the racism thing too far - if you're not generally attracted to Chinese people or Latinas then that's not a failing on your part that you need to work at or be made to feel guilty about.

If you refused to date someone before you'd met them simply because you heard they were Asian or whatever then that *could* be racist, but if after seeing them you didn't feel any attraction it's false to suggest you declined them because you're racist.

Come on people, use your (un)common sense and stop being so quick to label each other because every one of you has a mental list of people you wouldn't consider for dating...

At dkj....You are correct. I already made this point and got no response. It's the equivalent of preferring a blonde over a brunette.

Some are so caught up in their zeal to fight against racism for one reason or another that they cannot see what is not racism, but simply a preference. For instance, godsGirl23 prefers to be with someone outside of her race and doesn't consider that racism...but was upset with iheartdogs because she preferred her race. I don't mean to anyone her out, but we need to be careful to not label something racist when it is not. We can make others feel guilty for doing nothing wrong.
