Should we travel in pairs or a group?

I believe we should never travel anywhere too far alone for safety reasons.

Too many people get injured, or go missing. My mother always sent us places in a pair or group. And to this day, it's still instilled in me.

What is your opinion?

I guess I don't think much about it when I travel alone. That is, I don't worry. I always pray before and while I'm leaving to go somewhere alone, or with anyone. I often take long drives to and from my boyfriend's family's place (four hours one way), but I usually put my cell phone on the seat next to me where I can grasp it easily. Wouldn't you know it, last drive to his place when a gang of motorcyclists nearly ran into me at at least 100 miles an hour, I had left my phone in my purse and it was a full minute before I could get to it safely to call anybody.

I wouldn't mind having a gun, if nothing else to keep around unloaded. I have been in many unsafe situations throughout my life and come out fine, so I guess I don't give danger the credit it deserves.

I dont really think about anything happening when I'm going places. The only time I think of stuff is when I'm home because it's just me and my daughter...but I have a .38 S&W and not afraid to use it on an intruder.

I keep mace/pepper spray in my purse. While it won't do much permanent damage, I hope it will deter anyone who intends to harm me...or at least give me time to start screaming my head off and call 911! I have considered getting a small handgun and learning how to use it properly, though; it would make me feel safer if I ever have to take a long road trip by myself.

I've traveled up to 14 hours one way by myself, and had a blast. I use wisdom when traveling: I maintain contact with someone I trust, so that they will know where I am and what my plans are. I don't make random stops at night. I remain in well lit, populated areas as much as possible. I generally call someone when I stop, so that they again know where I am. I keep my doors locked and my luggage out of sight. I travel with a full tank of gas and try not to drop below 3/4 tank before stopping. I don't carry a purse or talk on a cell phone in the city when I'm out of my car. I check under my car and around my car for potential hiding places before approaching it, and will tell a store official or call 911 if I feel the least bit uneasy trying to get back to my car. I review my self defense basics and prepare to use them if necessary.

Doing those things, I'm probably safer traveling than I am walking back to my own house at night.

In dating situations, I prefer to go to public places or go in groups. Until I really know a person, I will not go with them anywhere alone, or ride in their car.

What's with you guys and low caliber handguns? At least move up to a .357 magnum or .40 so you get some knock down power!
