Would it bother you if (when you marry) your husband made less money than you? Would it make you feel like you were the provider? Would you respect him any less? Would you feel like you were the true head of household?

when i got married my husband didnt work, he was collecting disability due to back injury which i still dont know if that was true.

it caused issues in our marriage, big time...

anyway, today he is successful and doing well. that was 13 years ago almost and i've grown since and i would like to say that it would be ok.

not really sure though...that is a good question

Girl! River, thought u were gone, so I'm glad to hear from you! Wow, so you went into the marriage knowing there would be only so much he could contribute. Someone just asked about being with disabled ppl as mates. Interesting!

friends small churches do not always pay as much.Sometimes the wife does work and earn more than her husband.A Pastor friend of mine got paid less than his wife. No problems in the marriage.

Well Bg... once upon a time that would have mattered, however in this season of my life, I've re-evaluated the things I used to want, and what it is I "really" want and need now in a relationship. Because I am a homeowner, I think different things excite me more...i.e.... A man could make more money than me, but not know a darn thing about anything as far as taking care of the simplest things in the home, or knowing how to resolve car problems, plumbing problems and general stuff that happens in a house.

For a man to be able to share in general house, auto, lawn conversation like he "knows" something about this stuff, kinda excites me and motivates me to want to be engaged with this kind of man, rather than one that has career and fame, and nothing else to go with it.... I'm sure you can relate... lol... Not all women feel this way, but that's kinda where I am now. Good post! :applause: ~ GraceMae

Oh GraceMae,

You just said a mouthfull. To find a guy who is handy around the house would be such a blessing.

Today, I had to rewire an electrical outlet. The whole time I kept thinking, darn, where is the guy that is supposed to be doing this?

My girlfriends and I have gotten pretty handy out of economic necessity, but I would give that up in a heartbeat.

To segue a bit....a town I used to live in had lots of single and divorced folks. So, a local church set up an outreach. One Saturday a month the guys had an oil and filter changing party at the church parking lot. To get your car taken care of cost a coupon.

To earn coupons, I would bake cupcakes and cookies for some of the kids in the church with a single dad. I also made costumes for the school play. Each hour of service netted me a coupon. The coupons were redeemable in services.

So, my oil would get changed for free. I also redeemed the coupons when my hot water heater went out and I needed a new one installed. A friend used hers to get ceiling fans installed.

Where I am going with this is that we basically traded services. I can sew, clean house, babysit, and bake. I needed help with the car and some things around the house. We swapped.

And once a month, we all came together to help out the elderly. Some of the people even brought their older kids along to help out. While the guys mowed the lawn, fixed plumbing, cars, etc. we ladies would clean the house, change light bulbs, cook some meals, and do laundry. This allowed some of the elderly people in our community to stay in their homes who would otherwise have had to move to assisted living.

We had fun and nobody spent very much money. We invested the gifts we had to help each other and those in our community who needed the help. I have never seen another program like it, but always remember the fun, fellowship, and savings.

Anyway, you make a lot of sense mentioning a guy who is handy. Those fellows are more valuable than gold.

Blessings,

Elisa

@Dennis, I hear you. I personally think it's awesome when couples see all monies coming in as 'ours'. @GM, I know what you mean. I feel that way about cars. I don't want to wash it, change the oil, fix a flat, to tell the truth, I don't even want to put gas in! I don't want to have to do anything but get in and drive. @Elisa, that sounds like a good idea! I'm going to mention it to one of our undershepards tomorrow.

I think the first question to be answered is whether or not God decreed women to work outside of the home.

Titus 2:3-5 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste,KEEPERS AT HOME, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

Until this occurs we'll continue to see the slide of a once great nation into the abyss. I do realize most american women won't find this passage refreshing.
