Are their typical differences between east and west coast americans?
Posted : 5 May, 2010 05:57 AM

I put this on the "ask a girl thread" but this is just pro forma. This post is addressed to all americans on this site.

What I would like to know, by curiosity:

are there many differences between americans living in one part of the country or the other?

I can understand that the climate and the environment are different but I would like to know in particular, differences in behaviour..... like if you are travelling to the other coast.... or up to the north, or down to the south.... are there "rules" or "dos & donts" that you should observe?

It might sound ridiculous but I am from a very tiny small country and even we (15 million only) are not at all the same in language, manners, greetings....

So I would really like to know IF and WHAT differences you have amongst yourselves in the USA.

Looking forward to your replies:waving::waving::waving:

LOL... This topic is cracking me up!

I haven't traveled much... so don't have much to say here... I've lived in Washington state my whole life. I will say that people in Montana are very hospitable =)

The little bit of time I've spent in the mid-west (mostly Missouri) on vacation leads me to believe that folks there are more like folks in the south. Everyone was really friendly.

Oh, come on people that state up north is where hillbillies come from.( Michigan ) barefooted women, dirt roads, and Indians.

We have to put up a fence on the state line. Dennis

This pic was taken in Michigan. Some guy in a store get mad seeing me wear my jacket and really did say he was going to throw me out.He was a Michigan fan. When I wore this jacket to Tiger staduim I thought 2 drukks were going to jump me.They hated my jacket. Ohio Stae has only lost to Michigan 1 time in the last 10 years. 9-1 Bucs rule. I am counting this years victory in advance. stay away from Michigan ok.Dennis

Well, it seems y'all have pretty much hit the nail on the head on those foreign places........but....

then there was Texas.

Where the folks are real friendly unless they live in one of the huge towns all the Yankees have come down and taken over. But even there, everything is bigger and better in Texas.

There is an old sayin...there are only three types of people....those born in TX, those who wish they were, and those who don't even know they should wish for it.

(Now I get to see how the folks on here take jokes....cause if not am gonna be duckin rotten tomatoes for a LONG time)

Blessings y'all.

This is sort of a private game of mine; looking for tells and to see if i can guess where somebody is from since in the army you get people from all over the states. usually it's all done in retrospect tho. the following is just my opinion:

west coasties: laid back.

mid-westerners: neither east, west or south.

east coaster: hustle.

southerners: accent, duh.

to this west coastie (OR), formal manners can come off as pretentious, slow and tiresome, so as far as that dept. goes, what we lack in consistency we make up for in sincerity and not saying things like 'you too' or 'thanks' as just a passing thought or not smiling and looking them in they eye when we say it.

texans have their stuff together pretty well

@godslamb: don't forget the rednecks. even in the western side of WA and OR they're there apleanty.

floridians look like alligaters i've always thought.

new england has the coolest accents.

people from pennsylvania are pretty cool. good mix of new england and mid-western mindset/attitude.

Nothing cooler than when someone from Philly says 'How we doin'"

Just my opinion.
