I don't feel comfortable making the first move. I am kind of shy when it comes to meeting new people, so I would prefer, if a man were interested in me, that he make the first move.

Send me a note, tell me something about yourself, ask me a question...you know, start a conversation. I'm a pretty laid back, and easy to talk to person, so if I'm interested, I will respond back.

I was raised to believe that men liked to be the ones to pursue a woman, and that if he is really interested, he will show it.

I always felt like it is the mans place to make the first move and it seems whenever I decide, "oh why not?" and write a guy, more often than not he does not write back! So, here I just sit back and wait!

Asking a guy out and sending the first message are far from the same thing.

Tulip is right. There's a big difference. Sending the first message is no different than just introducing myself to a guy I might meet at church/work/school/party/etc. I wouldn't think twice about doing that. But once I've introduced myself to him, and we've gotten to know each other a bit, I think that it's his job to officially ask me out.

So, short answer: Send the first message? Yes. Ask him out? No.

I think CDFF needs to change "send a wink" to "send a smile" because that is how it happens (for me anyway) in the "real" world.

If I see a girl on the street and she smiles at me, I figure I have a chance, and I have no problem taking the reins from there. For me, this site has become the equivalent of standing on the street corner, hitting on every woman that walks by. How do you think that would go over?

I've read other guys on here talking about the same thing I've experienced. You may send out ten, fifteen, twenty messages before you get a reply. Such a waste of time and not really fair to the guys.

The rules are different here. Women need to be a little more forward. Find a guy you think you could like and send him a smiley face.
